I make banana icecream without a vita mix. I blend fresh bananas with a hand blender and then put it into a metal container (has to be metal) and freeze. Depending on how frozen it is you may have to let it set out a little bit when you take it out. But it's good.
So how is this actually banana "ice cream" when there's no milk? Since it's just frozen bananas broken down into a smoothy-type texture wouldn't this really be considered a Banana Sorbet?
The vitamix is the best applicance ever. Think of all the applicances that you have purchased and rarely used in your home. .You will use the vitamix regularly if not daily. It has a great warranty and it is amazing. It is not stupid, it is a investment in your health. I bought one this year and wish I had done it sooner.
cinnamon sounds yummy! they made a recipe like this on the Dr. Oz Show the other day and they added vanilla extract in the blender and then sprinkled nutmeg on it. I tried that and it was tasty, too!
@chechnya Oh okay, now I kind of get it. Well, if your daily routine consists of mainly smoothies, then buying a Vita-Mix is stupid. But this girl seems to be using it to its full potential. Making ice cream is a toughy! Well, for my mum's blender it was....
@chechnya it's not a blender you buy at bed bath and beyond and throw out in a couple of months. it's a blender for life with a 7 year warranty. In the long run, it saves time, money, and gives health.
@chechnya Course not, but the quality and quickness of the time in the end is definitely worth it. I can make the smoothest green smothies and love it. The old "good" blender always gave me disgusting chunks. I can make ice cream out of anything frozen. Old blender would've broken.
Why freezing the bananas? It works with room temperature fruits too!!

She's right: get a Vitamix. And I'd like to add that it would be the end of unhealthy foods in your kitchen (if you commit to the idea).

@chechnya Hehe, I spent over $1000 on a Vitamix branded blender. Do you think I regret it? Nope. You get what you pay for.
