I think if you had a longer tether, it might fly better. As the difference in temperature becomes wider, the balloon should get better lift. R. Buckminster Fuller suggested that the inner temperature of a sphere that is 1 mile in diameter only needs to be 1 degree F warmer than its surrounding temperature in order to stay afloat in the sky.
Its was too windy that day as of every day here in britain
Flying it flyer than 10 feet seems to be impossible as it is not filled with helium or hot air so it has almost nil lifting capacity Its only warmed by the sun
Please see my lastest videos for some slighty better flights
Decided to travel with my dad today to fly this thing because it was sunny with only 5 mph north east wind. A 20 mile trip just to fly it in a huge flat open field and attach my 100 feet tall plastic bag. About to set it all up got the generater out and air compressor and the god dam british sun goes behind the clouds. waited for over 90 minutes for the sun to come back out and the clouds just got thicker so had to go home. Waste of time that was.
Nicely done sir

Cool how do you make those? What did you put in the balloon to make it float?
bennmug 2 years ago
Made it from 18 bin very thin bin linners.
I fill it with air from an airbed pump and the heat from the sun makes it rise.
If you make one of these it importent to use the thinnest bags possible and the balloon must be more than 8 feet in diameter to be able to fly.
These balloons will not fly if there is any wind.

Wow didn't know you could do that I thought maybe it would take some helium.
