This speech was given in Jan or Feb 1979 but the economy was already showing signs of weakness by early-mid 1978 when Inflation, Interest Rates & Unemployment started to rise.

In 1980 the debt was 1 trill. dollars. Remember, he was running neck and neck with Reagan, until the last week. He actually put solar panels on the white house that Reagan took off.
