  • I remember seeing these when I worked for the Railroad in New York the MOW Guys used to put chains on the tires for better traction depending on where they were using it.

  • The concept is good. I am a small land owner, and want to clear land. Doing it with hand tools, Chain saws, axes, kaizer blades etc. is a LOT of hard work. This is much easier, and won't cause erosion like bulldozing would, nor leave me with huge brush piles to let rot and or burn as I've had in the past. Better for me, better for the environment too. I'd like the smaller tracked versions myself. But I can see why Timber Co.'s would use these larger ones.

  • you must get alot of punctures using a wheeled loader instead of a tracked vehicle

  • Do you have to much wood, that you waste it?

  • @HerosBerlin10 Location, time & costumer needs. As nice as it would be to make use of the wood that needs to be cleared it is not always possible. The wood has to be reasonably close to were it can be used by lumber mills or power plants other wise you waste more fuel transporting then what you would get out of it. Some times they don't have the time. They need to get it cleared quickly to clear a right of way.

  • @steam0001

also, they use these things for clearing areas that are going to be clear cut, so the feller bunchers can come get the mature trees.

  • @steam0001 Looks really nice.... but here in my country, Germany, you pay about 60Euro per 1000lbs of wood ! Thats sick !

  • thats soo american. europeans would cut down the tree and burn it efficiently in a biomass power plant. but still it looks like a lot of fun to use it!

  • I don´t get it, whats the point of this?? Use the brunches and trees and make chips of it instead. Everything you don´t use in sawmills make chips of it and use it in powerplants!!! Like we do in sweden!

  • @tomsson11 Sure burn 80-100 us gallons of diesel just to transport the chips the 150 -200 miles to a power plant...sounds Swedish to me!

  • these machines are amazing how they can turn trees and brush into mulch in the blink of an eye. these machines are a necessity for clearing areas out though. we had one on our land when they were clearing out from under the electric towers. they look like they would be a blast to run.

  • Ich würde das Zeug normal fällen, und zu Hackschnitzeln verarbeiten! Ihr macht da ne menge Geld kaputt, vim Diesel für des Viech mal ganz abgesehen...

  • I can only imagine how much fuel that machine would go through in 8 hours at full rpm!

I used to run Letournea at the railway and it was the same way running at 2100 rpms would really eat the diesel fuel.

But I guess the job that is does and the time that it saves more than makes up for the cost of fuel.

    Great video

  • Never ran one of these but i have many hours in a gyrotrac GT25XP, and i would burn close to 100 gallons in 5-7 hour dependin on terrain "large trees / steep hills = more stain so more fuel burn"

  • i run a 726 mulcher even tho it doesn;t have the hp the track a machines do i love running it i would take it over any other mulcher on the market
