It IS obvious that McCain never pushed the idea of a 100 year (or longer) Iraq War. He was obviously referring, from the beginning, to the type of occupation we currently have in Japan. So yes, people are misrepresenting him.
However, McCain does show a great deal of ineptitude to think that that type of occupation will be possible in foreseeable Iraqi future. He is running on his foreign policy experience, and this shows how little useful experience he has.

The occupation of those former enemy nations did not begin until after all parties signed an armistice (except Japan with Russia).
The allied powers did not engage in partisan secular uprisings against any armed insurgents left to wander the countryside due to any half-measures by Eisenhower of MacArthur. Our garrisons were never under attack by disaffected nationalist elements or un-vanquished ideologues.

'wars are fought'? what war? Who are we fighting? This is an OCCUPATION and as long as we are there, sunnis and shia from all over the ME will come to kill us. Like the empires before us, we will be thrown out eventually. 'Great progress'? You mean compared to the horrific, apocalyptic situation from 2 years ago? Things have improved, now only about 50-100 Iraqis are killed per day instead of 200. Hooray! Well worth the US lives and 500 billion of taxpayer dollars.

We're fighting multiple wars-one to take out Saddam, others are against Iraqi insurgents, AQI and Iran, but the broader war is against Islam, a 7th century totalitarian fascist death cult bent on global domination
Iraq was described as a mass grave below ground and a concentration camp above ground before the invasion. I'm sure 85% of Iraqis who risked their lives by supporting democracy would not want to be subjected to Saddam's rape and torture rooms again as the bleeding heart liberals want

Its hard to know where to start. You accuse them of wanting world domination (which they might) but who has bases in 130+ countries around the world? Who has the argest military by far? And who has been involved with more circumventions of democracy than you can shake a stick at over the last 60 years?
Its the US.
Before throwing phrases like world domination around you might look closer to home and those issuing decrees from the Whitehouse enabled by funding from the US taxpayer.
