For me the "infection" that turns people into "Zombies" Is very familiar to rabies, the person is infected then goes blind with rage, often following a straight path tearing anything apart in it's path. But I never figured if it's rabies how they stop from killing each other which in the original L4D you can see the infected beating on each other when they're idle.
