In the early 90's my band The Blue Devils done few openings for the Gories French Tour, I was 17 years old playing Rhythm GUitar, Mike & Dan gave me the confidence to play guitar solo :)
I wouldn't change one hair on their heads, let alone change the music, playing or singing. This band is fantastic - simple, raw and a whole lot 'o' attitude. I love the guitar playing, I love the singing, and the woman on drums is great - she chews her gum, and looks as if she's waiting for the whole matter to end so she can get the hell out of there. Understated swagger - love it!

THis band blows.. the drummer sucks, the guitars are all out of tune and the singing leaves much to be desired... sorry if the truth hurts. If they fixed those things they would be OK.
@nickothompson it's called image. and this band has it. The drummer doesn't suck, and rock aren't supposed to have hannah montana at lead singer. Maroon five, nickelback, and coldplay are not real rock bands, so go listen to that.
@nickothompson I think your missing the point, it isn't supposed to sound polished. That would be its charm, and truth can often be subjective. In this case it is a pretty misguided opinion. If you don't like it that's cool, but I just had to reply as you offered up some of the most ridiculous advice on how a garage rock band could improve it self.
Simple and perfect punk blues. Why o why did they split up. The world would be such a better place if they were still together, even though the Dirtbombs do rock also, but still, imagine all of those great albums they would've made.
I don't think you need to mention what band lou reed is from, anyone watching this should know that, and if they don't they should get checked for a brain tumor.
At sixteen I drank Thunderbird for the first time, based largely on the Gories' endorsement. I puked.
Their glory years (1988-1992) coincided with my high school years. Not sure I would've survived the crushing boredom without those shows and records...
I saw The Gories play two times in New York City. One was at a dive bar on 14th street and the other time was at a small bar called Nightengales in the east village. It was a long time ago - around 1987. I knew they were too good to last so I wasn't surprised when they broke up.

This Thunderbird drink must be some kind of ace blues cats serum, Seasick Steve is doing a great tune right here on the Tube about the same beverage.

MICK! Sorry about Fil's bad Absinthe in Vegas, I think that was '99... it was Bob's fault. You are a tall strong beautiful force in the name of ROCK!
Thank you!

So very great. The boredom, the jam, Mick just being Mick; the Gories were gods.

Efectivamente, esta és la muestra de que se pueden grabar discos sin apenas saber tocar música, pero si haciendo buenas canciones.
Que sinvergüenzas y a la vez que buenos eran Los Gories.

Marrying Alex Chilton, I think!
jheermann 3 years ago
No shit! Somehow I doubt it, not specially because of the age difference. It would be too much class together.
Dan´s choruses complemented Mick´s voice so well, I can´t help but miss the Gories nevermind the great bands they´ve formed since.
