It's easy to make arguments for Anderson, Penn, and GSP, but the difference is Fedor regularly fights against others outweighing him by 20 pounds or more (sometimes over 100lbs); and has looked very dominant. Anderson and GSP cut weight to fight in their divisions where they are fairly larger than their competition.

anderson fights top fighters regularly. fedor hasn't faced a top guy since his 2005 fight with crocop(cc was top-notch back then.he fought lindland who's a blown up mw (good fighter, did weigh in as a hw but was way out of his weight class)and hunt who is a good fighter but fedor is was a bad matchup for him style-wise.so not even those two fights were a big deal.hmc and the fat brazillian are not worth mentioning.fedor is an awesome fighter, no doubt, but he needs to face top competition again.

I'm not disputing that he's a great fighter, just that he's a large guy in a smaller weight class. Hunt was ranked in the top 10 when he fought Fedor. Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Rampage, and Anderson Silva are all taller and some as large as Fedor before they start weight cutting. Just something to be considered.

hunt dropped out of top 10 after that fight :) it doesn't matter what his rank was- what matters is that fedor was a bad matchup for him. just like the timmy fight (soon). timmy is a top 5 hw but fedor is a bad matchup for him so even that fight won't be all that important. randy would be a much tougher opponent&a bigger challenge than tim (i'm not saying randy is better but he may as well beat him- timmy's chances are slim at best since he is prone to submissions).

I think Tim has a better chance of beating Fedor than Randy...not that I think either will do it. Tim at least has the threat of a KO, good conditioning, and can use his size advantage to essentially stall to a victory. Randy on the other hand is not a great striker, has been knocked out before, and is not the best at applying submissions. I think the toughest opponent out there for Fedor is Barnett (on paper), but in combat sports anything can happen.
