  • Wow! Running just as should gosh I love a tuned lawnboy powerful & invinsable machines. Had the privilege of using them from this vintage!! :)

  • @drh4683 Best response I've seen on here in a while. Didn't even need profanity (not that I'm above it).

  • this guy has the kinda voice commercials need..if this dude ever markets a product...I WILL BUY IT

and nice mower thats pretty unique

  • hey guy im a kid and i rebuild lbs cause they were great engines i have 8 of them keep up the trash picking guys : )

  • Nice machine there, Doug. I have a 1967 myself. Brick-top. Manual start, manual propelled, wobbly wheels... but I like it. It was a landfill-special. Cleaned the carb and sanded the points, and now it runs like new.

  • It seems to be a smoother engine than what's offered today. It kind of sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

  • Did you ever make a video showing how to install bronze brushing on the wheels?

Also, you have a lot of great videos. Thanks for sharing.

  • This may be a dumb question but as I was always told there is no dumb question only dumb people.... All Lawn Boy mowers of this vintage seem to have a removable panel in the top of the deck right in front of the motor, what is the purpose of it?

  • lol 69

  • hello i was wondering if you can run a lawnboy on a 40:1 mixture

  • I got one of them from my grandpa!

  • @drh4683 Are you seriously half retarded ? or was that just a joke ? I hope you were just joking lol

  • Sounds like there is a mower with a Kawasaki in the background

  • @novachevyguy

    not very nice mate

  • This looks like a C engine, not a D

  • @APontiacof455cubes It's a D engine, the C engines have a choke instead of a primer. I don't think they were using Cs anymore by 69 either.

  • The capstan driving the wheels via the belt, reminds me of the old tape recorders. This is an interesting mower.

  • i knew it just kiding but my mom is geting on me cause i brought back the ol 54 iron horse my dad rebuit it abou 20 years ago but it kept compresion good to and yesterday me and my freind put new oil seals in a 89 camry and he drill spun the oil pumps driver and it didint leak once the engine back together it tharted peeing oil all over the floor and i was like WTF so i got to buy a new oil pump for it

    zeke some body reply

  • i knew it just kiding but my mom is really geting on me cause i brought back the 54 iron horse yester day

  • hey doug my name is zeke and i am 11i love lawn-boys i have 13 one is the none self propelled version of this one i also have a 54 iron horse like yours but my prized one is my model 7020 year 1971 please reply your lbs are cool dos you wife ever get made at you cause of all your collections? thanks -zeke

    to doug

  • how do you adjust your drive to make the capstan rollers tighter on the wheels

  • these mowers are sort after . I think they have a completely different feel from a four cycle machine. seem to cut like a sharp razor

  • I just got my 1972 lawnboy going again, I can't believe the power this thing has. The grass in my lawn was two feet tall, and the lill 19" machine just powered through it.

  • There used to be a Lawn Boy plant in Galesburg, Illinois.

  • wtf this is the most retarded thing ive ever seen... and the dude's voice sounds like that quadrapalegic's keyboard voice on family guy lmao.

  • @bentaiver Congratulations ass-hole, you have stumbled upon someone who has differing hobbies and interests than you.

  • Reminds me of my father's Lawn Boy from 1970. It lasted over 10 years with real hard use until it just finally gave up the ghost.

  • sweet

  • hey i'm just kinda curious to why you get offended when people compliment your voice. nice mower by the way : )

  • we had a LB when I was a kid, cut a lot of grass with that thing, where could I find someone to ask questions about a LB? I'd ask you, but it looks like you're fond of blocking people, afraid I might ask the wrong question or get you on a bad day...lol

  • DavidsFarm is giving away 50 Lawnboys for free including some from the 60's, check him out here on YT

  • runs great by the way

  • i think you have a good speaking voice. like a radio voice is what you would call it i guess. its awesome.

  • I think your voice is cool. Has an electric quality to it. ;)

  • Awesome. Forty years later and you still don't see electric start too often.

  • you have to like jog to keep up with it:D

  • Great mower.

These were made by Outboard Marine Corp. right ? Only not in Waukegan, Lincoln maybe ?

  • Lawnboys were ahead of thier time a bit.

  • seriously.

  • i was checking that too..

  • i know i was looking at the batteries he's talkin about on ebay, fuckin cheaper than the original lawnboy battery lol

  • can you use a 12volt motorcycle battery on any key start lawnboy???

  • A grey Lawn-Boy?!? I thought they only came in green...

  • Yeah, thats what i said. Then i watched some video, and the guy had a red one!

  • Nice video, thanks for sharing! I have older Lawn boy mowers too. I tried once using 32:1 ratio in an older model with a "C" engine and the engine seized! Since then I use 16:1! All my mowers have 3 ring pistons. And I don't think 2 ring pistons are available for my older 18" mowers as their pistons have a smaller bore (about 2 1/8").

  • @PhilRacicot

I think it was only until the F series came out in '78 that they used less than 32:1. F series and on used 32:1. 32 is still really heavy, I'd use a synthetic that allowed me to run 100:1, but i'd only go 80:1. Made by AMSOil. F series are the best LB engines in my opinion. Duraforces dont seem to run as long and D and C series dont seem to have as much power.

  • hey have you made your vid about how to put bronze bushings in the wheels to stabilize them better? am curious to know how. thanks

  • That IS the right color for that model year. They switched to green the next year.

  • Crap a White LAWN BOY

  • Wow. Hold on to that thing. Its the Rolls-Royce of Lawn-Boy push mowers.

  • My dad has a 30 to 40 year old lawnboy. It's still running like a champ. Talk about built to last. Why don't we make stuff like this anymore?

  • because you cant make money off something that never needs repairing

  • wow thats really cool dude, im getting a 84 self-propelled lawn-boy this weekend. i love the old 2 stroke models as well lol. where did u find this mower?

  • nice video yea in those years lawnmowers were made to last great video

  • At least Lawnboy had a recoil assembly on the engine just in case the electric start did not work. I see alot of electric start Tecumseh mowers in the trash with no emergency recoil assemblies.

  • Yeah and you can't get batteries for them anymore, what a waste

  • lawnboys are the best. but isn't it supposed to be green

  • they were making 'em that color for a couple of years...not sure why though

  • there is a wheel on top of the carb can you tell me how to adjust

  • turn it to the left to richen it turn it to the right to make it leaner. i recommend you not touch it if you dont know how to adjust it!

  • Cool mower. I worked with a Mechanic who got a 1960s new in the box gold Lawn Boy as a wedding gift in the 1990s. His grandfather was a dealer for years, had tools and manuals going back to the start of Lawn Boy.

  • @oooowwwwdddd just a little

  • i wish i had the original blue starter handle for mine.

  • Sounds Great, has a lot of life left in it.

  • do i see that its also a pull start mower as well as electric? that would be very handy in case of low batter power so you dont kill it trying to start it xD i love it!

  • what a beautifull green lawn . cool lawnmower

  • Nice mower. I have an 8229 with the same clutch rod setup on the left side (from a mowing position) and I use it sparingly as I'm afraid that the rod is going to brake. Do you happen to know if this part fails often. I bought the last one from Jack's supply of NOS. I actually can get another 8229 but have passed on it as it doesn't have that prop engagement rod. -Dave

  • nice pants and shirt pretty spiffy same with ur lawnboy. i have two like those one 68 and a 69. one with all the same features as this and the other is just a standard pull start push mower. cool vid!

  • Great Lawn-Boy Doug!! I have a similar model without electric start. Mine's from '68. You're right, 32:1 is perfectly safe for these especially when using the Lawn-Boy Generation 2 oil. Great video!

  • Thanks Mark! Hey, is your '68 a top belt drive self propelled? What model is yours?

  • @drh4683 my neighbor has has probably a dozen or more L-B units. going back as far as '62.

  • Do You Still Have This??

  • That's an ingenious system for driving the wheels with the belt...My dad has a Lawn-boy he bought in around 1995. That's about when I moved from my parents house so I never have actually tried mowing with it. Something tells me it may actually have a 4-cycle engine.

  • Yes, lawnboy did have 4 cycle engine models starting in the mid 90's. They were tecumseh's. Still good mowers, but nothing beats the 2 cycle! I bought a brand new 21" lawnboy commercial back in '03 as in '04 lawnboy discontinued the 2 cycle engine due to EPA regs. I wanted to have the last of the best.

  • The engines that replaed the D series were so bad the best thing they ever did was discontinue.

I have 72 Viking, a rebranded Lawn boy with the D407 motor still running never been rebuilt ( just point and a new float )

  • @northerbrewer F series were the best. more power and just as reliable. the duraforce that came out in '98....now that i dunno so much.

  • Nope I'll never buy that the D400s were much better.

  • @APontiacof455cubes The F series has more power, although I've never noticed a difference. I like the D's a C's better, the plastic carbs on the F's are finicky and hard to adjust, they also blow oil seals much more frequently.

  • @Gazpacho8 Im 20 years old and not much of a mechanic at all, but I could rebuild an F series carb in my sleep. The governor on my '79 7268 is a tad finnicky, but honestly, it took maybe 20 min to get it adjusted and its been fine for a whole mowing season. My Echo SRM 2100 trimmer needs the high speed jet adjusted every time I use it! I'd rather have a finnicky carb'd mower with more power, needle bearings on the lower PTO and have parts available.

  • @Gazpacho8 Plus, they made the F for 24 years, they made the D for 10. I can go down to my local small engine shop and they have pretty much every part for my 7268. I thought about tracking down and rebuilding a nice D engined LB, but after glancing in the stores inventory for D engines, let alone C engines, they didn't have 1/4 of what they did for the F's. Only other advantage of a D would be points ignition. I dont know much about it, but i know it's easy to repair.

  • @APontiacof455cubes I can't get any lawn-boy parts at all where I am, they're all obsolete. I agree the carb is easy to rebuild but it's annoying to adjust because there is no adjustment knob, the adjustment is only accessible with a tiny wrench, kinda dangerous with the mower running.

  • @APontiacof455cubes Maybe you've never worked on a D engine, but when you do you'll find everything is built to a higher standard and is better engineered. The governor you mentioned is a flimsy air vain on the F, on the D it's a wonderful mechanical weighted system that always works perfectly.

  • @Gazpacho8 Built to a higher standard?! Come now, all LB's built while under OMC before Toro's takeover are of high quality. I had a '73 7073 for parts for awhile and there was no discernible difference. The hardware they used on the OMC mowers is WAY over engineered for its purpose. My 7268 has thick 1/4 inch bolts where a Duraforce would have 1/8 inch screws! Haha. I've never worked on them, but the D series carb seems more complicated than the F, seems to have more parts.

  • @APontiacof455cubes I agree the OMC lawn-boys were all well made. I just think the D's have better carb and governors than the Fs. The D uses a centrifugal weight system located under the flywheel. The F uses a spring loaded air vane which isn't as good or durable. The D carb is of a similar design to the F carb but is easier to adjust and made of aluminum instead of plastic. The D carb also has L shaped fasteners for the float bowl which enables removal while the carb is still attached.

  • i have 3 lawnboys. i have a bricktop the same year and colour. check out my profile on my tractor forum.

  • Cant wait to see how you put the bushing in the wheels. Great video. I have several LB's.
