@Bastaweh U must admit that when Musa Sadr created Amal he asked for Arafat's help.It was Arafat who even gave it the name "Amal" & gave u political support & supplied u with the weapons u asked for.It's a fact that Amal fought the PLO after Hafiz Assad gave orders to Berri to fight them cos Assad wanted to take control of the Palestinian political decision.When Musa Sadr was alive Amal was independant,but when Berri became the leader he sold Amal to Hafiz Assad & was basically a Syrian tool.

The Maronites and other Christians suffered under the Ottomans.During WW1 the Ottomans set up a blockade of Mt.Lebanon and caused 25% of the people to die from starvation.Not to mention the massacres of Christians by them so I can understand why the Maronites were fearful but they made a mistake by siding with Israel.Israel is not the friend of any Christians,look how they gave arms to Druze in Chouf to kill Christians.

The main problem is people try to make the civil war an issue between Christian and Muslim when it was mostly over political ideologies.The Maronite Christians were pro-West and they clashed with the Muslims who were influenced by Leftists.Many Orthodox Christians were also Leftists and Arab Nationalists.

The civil war was actually not that bad.Only 70,000 people died in 20 years.If you compare it to many other conflicts it really is not that bad.Black September in Jordan between Palestinians and the Jordanian army killed about 13,000 in just a few weeks.
