saw him a few times at the Sherbourne Hotel, I think it was called, in the basement. Could never get Terry Jones to go with me tho. Also I think at the Horseshoe and Egertons on Gerrard. All back in the 70's. David Woodhead and I went to his apartment on Queen St. (the cover of his first album) -he was writing a pirate song on his piano...on of the funniest performers ever--reminded me of a crazed Ed Norton (of the Honeymooners!!!)
Incredible that we used to see a band of that caliber on a regular basis at the Izzy in Toronto, the Black Swan in Ottawa. etc etc Loved this band Joe is a genius
He will be playing TRANZAC in Toronto on Sat feb 6 at 6:30 pm. He has been doing a regular (1ce / month?) Saturday evening gig @ Tranzac with George Dobo for the past few months.
I don't suppose you have any other footage? there used to be a public TV show that was broadcast as filler from time to time - Joe did some great nonsense songs there - I'm looking for a song that I think he called "Brain Damage Blues"
I used to see them at the "Pizza Patio" back room on Bloor St. Toronto - the corner stage was so small, that they would all line up standing one if front of the other to play. Another regular gig was the Black Bull Tavern on Queen St.
I love the shit out of this song... genius. This performance is consumingly brilliant with just the right amount of clever pizazz. Oooooeee, oooooeee, oooooeee. What a delight!
Joe is one of the greats!
