go to run then type msconfig then uncheck GUI boot...this will launch you directly to the start screen :)

the reason that the boot time is longer than normal is that the thinkpad's wireless driver on a thinkpad t400 takes a long time to load...other than that t400 is one of the fastest computers in the market..if you dont believe me check the pc benchmarks...these computers are work horses!!!!-you shopuld see these computers fly after startup...

When you first get vista if you check the boot up menu its only set to use half the power of the computer so all you gotta do is change it to full and it will easily be as fast as windows 7

erm ive got windows 7 now and i was wrong all the computers come set to only use 1/2 of the power i admit windows 7 is faster BUT all you have to do on vista is change boot time

No i was mentioning the fast that an old mac cant run the newest mac os, so someone saying that about pcs is pointless. Those thinkpads have a curve on the top of the lid, those usually are older, im only human :P

@doubleatheman The T400 is less than 3 years old. I believe that it came out in 2007-2008. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on my ThinkPad T42, which actually is from about 5 years ago, and it booted up in 38.3 seconds.

dual boot 4ghz proccessor, 1.5gb nvidea HD graphics, Windows 7 Ultimate X64 and Vista Ulitimate X64, 6gb ram 2TB HDD, Windows 7 Boot = 21 seconds full boot till 0% CPU usage and Windows Vista Boot = 27 seconds full boot till 0% cpu usage. I Conclude you can only compare boot times more efficiently with high speed PC's.
