  • How many thousands of lives were saved by Japanese ingenuity and the enforcement of strong building codes?

  • AHh! that is the bulding I used to work!!

  • If this was 'the big one' being filmed while the building was swaying, why is the camera so still... why is no one screaming... how are those vehicles and people able to walk past so casually... wheres the debris etc raining down...???

  • they were swaying like trees D:

  • japan we cheer u up :)

  • @purplepotatochi:

Lol, I dunno, but for me it could be both.

  • isolator system building

  • arnt they designed to swing to 'go with' the high altitude winds?..

  • photoshopped

  • god hats 11s

  • It didn't even fall. What an anti climax.

  • @dernis semi-lol

  • it should have been the week before and shrove tuesday couldve been renamed japanquake day

  • Great Video , Good quality , Interesting Japanese people hmmm...

    Niemcy to chuje : >

  • Takeshi's castle has really loved up in the pecking order.

  • Is it just me or the building moving? NO REALLY ARE THYE?

  • take 2 much wasabi, everythings inception

  • FUCKING HELL!!!

  • I find it offensive that people are making jokes about this sort of thing

  • fuck standing by one of them or worse being in the building

  • Huh... wheres the plane...and even more so wheres the big expositions ???

  • the building a swaying

  • Can someone explain to me what is happening in this video?? I feel quite stupid at the moment!

  • @frmonth2 the buildings are moving due to the massive earthquake a few days back...

  • @frmonth2 Due to Japans high volume of earthquakes, the foundations are built to sway with the building, rather than statically fixed like you would find in buildings in non-earthquake areas. This allows the shockwaves to travel through the structure easily, and the force of the earthquake is 'rolled' with and absorbed, similar to how a cars crumple zone absorbs an impact of a crash. In the video the building is still swaying after the earthquake for this reason

  • @WhyYouJelly Ah, very interesting! You sir, deserve a thumbs up!

  • @WhyYouJelly Right, now I get it thanks!

  • Very well done, japan.

    Very well done indeed.

  • impresionante como se mueve el edificio

  • who else was expecting Godzilla to come in between those two buildings

  • I whip my towers back and fourth

  • @suprim6637997 Pure coincidence stop scare mongering !!

  • @suprim6637997 It was on the 11th of march dummy.

  • Comment removed

  • @suprim6637997

    3/10/2011 + 9/11/2001 = 12/21/4012 ;)

  • @suprim6637997 What about indonesia tsunami and the hundreds of other earthquakes you dumb fuck,

  • @suprim6637997 So the end of the world will be in the 21st month of 2012?

  • @tomroxelf In America they put MM/DD/YY its backwards to us buddy! lol :p

  • @you0no0how0we0do But he clearly writes that the world trade center was destoryed on 9/11/01, 11 being the month...

  • @tomroxelf Meh, it's early dm...

  • @tomroxelf no it was in september lol so 11 is the day lol :D

  • @tomroxelf fuckin retard

  • @tomroxelf a different Metric system, a lot of other countries put there dates like ->

    03/11/2003 (11th March 2003)

here in the UK it would appear 11/03/2003

  • @suprim6637997 HAAHA What a useless fucking comment. Add the dates of two events that had nothing to do with each other, change the outcome date slightly and...end of the world! What a useless bunch of shit XD LMFAO!

OMFG You got me laughing at horrific events, just out of your stupidity. That's quite an achievement, well done.

  • doing exactly what they're meant to be doing :) Its pure engineering genius :)

  • special foundations make them sway so the structure's not damaged during an earthquake

  • They are swaying due to the earthquake read the description any high rise building would do the same.

  • i feel dizzy!

  • Holy Shit.

  • OMG THEYRE DANCING - sick considering the sad things going on in japan :( stupid buildings no respect imo

  • If I was in Japan I wouldve taken this as a clear Godzilla oncoming.

  • Aaaah man this is crazy... (O_o)

  • OMG it looks like they are going to tip over

  • CLOVERFIELD!

  • my goodness thats some kickass engineering kudos to those Japanese guys.

  • why are the people recording this not moving then ?

  • @TigerLulzz

That should be sway!~Engineer deliberately make them sway!!It Is general knowledge,I don't know u don't even know that or just joking.....o_o

  • @TigerLulzz it would collapse in 1sec if its made in china

  • Co za asy........

  • WTF?!?! thats tripy!

  • every county prone to big earthquakes should have these types of buildings

  • Co za asy!

  • Well done Japan.

  • Co za asy ! !! !!! -~-^*^-~-

  • nice voice

  • not even single shattered window ?! WOW

  • My condolences to the Japanese people and survivors.. I just can't wait to see how the same great minds behind these engineering wonders will tame the devastating force of tsunamis of the future!

  • not even one shattered glass! that's just incredible!

  • Well that was boring 0_0

  • @TheBoyofnothing you sir are a massive idiot

  • Spa sappin ma building!

  • Have you hugged an engineer today?

  • scary!

  • 0:11 > Bill is distorted... 0:24 > Amazing... 0:55 > Calm? 0:59 > calmed down. 1:20 > Okay in there? 1:55 > still shaking. 2:08 > It is amazing, that. 2:10 > shake all the time. 2:11 > I have never seen. 2:23 > I think there Intensity "5". 2:27 > If you're in the top floor, trembling worth? 2:31 > Can not stand. 2:34 > Ground shaking is over, on top of the building......? 3:17 > It's still quaking? Or finished? 3:28 > Around the state. Sorry for bad translation.Im Japanese.
  • Hm, but if the quake was going the camera man would be bouncing around - so its stopped, why didn't the houses settle down?

  • Amazing technology! These builds withstood a huge earthquake. At least there are a few silver linings in this terrible event.

  • id shit myself if i was in one of those buildings

  • can't see anything

  • amazing, but the nature can be wilder

  • amazing

  • hey escot2008! Keep safe man!

  • Japanese technology > rest of the world.

  • @Willd86 Well, in theory your right, but in reality their high-tech technology is not widespread, and only those in cities have such advanced tech. The Building shown here were an absolute necessity for the country, considering that they have constant earthquakes.

  • ya..very good engineering...

  • So a massive earthquake happens, and all they do is stand by and watch? They don't even bother to duck down and cover their heads?

  • @InquilineKea Erm as you can see from the beginning of the video, at about 0.26, they're clearly standing under something. The earthquake didn't hit Tokyo, what more is there to do but stand around and watch?

  • @DANGihavenoidea The earthquake hit Tokyo all right. My brother lives in Tokyo and he said he thought his house was going to disintegrate, such was the force of the shaking.

  • Man,, that is the definition of good engineering.

  • Can someone translate what they're saying. please.

  • ♥ JAPAN ~ MARCH 11th, 2011

My deep condolences for all the tsunami and earthquake victims

    and their families in JAPAN;

and the rest of the Pacific countries that were hit.

    .

  • first pissed building ive ever seen

  • yeah very good enginers :3 a normal building gonna be down but it's amazing

  • This building falled off or not? :o

  • Weird how this video is so calm and peaceful.

  • structural engineers did their job :)

  • Inception

  • save lives, good. now what. haw safe can they still be.

  • I feel weird after watching this.

  • Very good architecture!

  • i bet its great fun being in that building

  • @MrMiikeeeey

    No, its not!

  • everything is earthquake proof in japan even people !! But tsunamis, I dont think so.

  • ..but they can`t survive AirplanesÉ...give me a break.

  • The buildings are supposed to swing. If they dont then the buildings will collapse. Thats engineering. So surprised there are so many ignorant ppl out there.

  • @MrJonslife have u ever seen a building swing like that? 99.9% havnt. hence the "ignorant" amazement fro the viewers.

  • WOW i never thought that the sway of buildings could be that noticeable from the outside

  • I almost get sea sick watching it.

  • Seriously, this guys aren't even scared of watching those buildings moving like that lol they just keep saying it's awesome >.>

  • @Hinahime17

The Japanese comment "Suge-na" does not literally mean Awesome. You can translate more like "Sugoi Yureteiru" that is swaying greatly. Japanese often omit some words.

  • @purplepotatochip It does mean awesome.

  • @BebeYnez

After Suge-na, there some words missing like Yureteiru ゆれている that means swaying.

You cannnot translate Suge-na to awesome all the time.

I am a Japanese and I know what Japanese is trying to say.

  • Amazing

  • All skyscrapers are designed this way you weeaboos

  • people seem not to mind skyscrapers swinging towards them
