total genius; Lawler and Kaufman were friends; in fact I think Lawler was a pall bearer at his funeral. In his final requests, another friend; classie freddie blassie; was to be a part of his family and sit with them in the front row.

That was probably the best introductory promo ever. Kaufman did not act like a heel. It was what he said and how he said it that drew the heat rather than being outwardly insulting or negative, it came across as his legitimate thoughts which only served to hack people off more. He really is one of the best heels ever, and gutsy too. Few people in his position would have dared play up the heel side.

Andy went to all the other wrestling promotions and they shooed him away. Memphis embraced the idea and it put Memphis and Jerry Lawler on the map forever.

I can remember when Andy Kaufman died. At first I thought he faked his own death, but nobody else thought so.

I wish it had been a hoax, but he did indeed pass away in Los Angeles May 16 1984 from medical complications due to lung cancer.
