The Naga (seabeasts) basically were once nightelfs, but they used arcane magics.

The nightelfs disliked that and attacked them. The naga-nelfs had only one choice, using their great magic powers to transform themselves to be able to breath in the water, and fled.

They waited thousands of years for revenge, and Illidan gives them the chance for it.

@fireblitz07 Sargeras burned out Illidan's eyes during the first was against the demons and replaced them with orbs of fel fire as a "gift". Illidan can see far better than with his original eyes, but the sight of burned-out eye sockets with green fire inside is a little disturbing to some. Azshara was the first to see him afterward, and gave him the cloth to tie across his eyes as they even disturbed her.

Well some guys are into Metal Gear Solid, some into Final Fantasy...and some for Warcraft. IMO Warcraft has propably the best and most detailed storylines, even though it takes ideas from other fantasy series, LOTR, Warhammer , Dragonlance etc. I mean all the races in Warcraft universe have so much history and there are so many great characters as well. Too bad WoW expansions are ruining it all.

Yea, well the naga actually called them selves "the Highborne"...they were the ones closest to their queen Azhara.and lived in the palace...and were all corrupted by Sargeras and they helped Burning Legion to get to Azeroth and they didnt care at all what happened to the rest of their kind outside the palace walls...they all believed that Sargeras was their new god and that he and the Burning Legion would clean the world from all other "lesser" races and so create a perfect new world.

Most of the Highborne were turned to naga after Well of Eternity exploded and Burning Legion was defeated...the whole palace sunk beneath the new Great Sea that separates Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms...before it was just one huge continent. But not all Highborne are nodways naga. Malfurion Stormrage "defeated" the advisor of Queen Azhara, Lord Xavius.well he did it 2 times acutally. The first time however Xavius and his most trusted sorceres were trying to keep the portal open to Burning Legion

when Malfurion destroyed their plans, the portal and Xavius in the process. But just before the portal collapsed, it sucked the remains of Xavius inside it and almost Malfurion too. Sargeras gave Xavius a new demonic body and he became the first of his kind, a Satyr. When new portal was opened to Azeroth, Xavius returned in this new form...

The reason why Illidan is able to command them is because he joined the Highborne during the war. He was like them, hungered for magic...

They are all very good....War of the Ancients trilogy is good, but the best Warcraft books were written by Christie Golden...I have not read Arthas but Rise of the Horde is a very dark tale how orcs were corrupted by Kiljaeden to become slaves of Burning Legion...and how they nearly slaughtered the Dranei to extinction and destroyed their own world in the process. And in the end how the orcs stepped through the Dark Portal into Azeroth.

Indeed, Hopefully Blizzard would announce Warcraft IV this year at Blizzcon (which is in October I think). But I fear they are just going to show new WoW expansion or their entirely new MMORPG alongside whit Starcraft II and Diablo III ofcourse...But Blizzard is also making another game that first used WoW's game engine for testing, but is later going to have it's own, entirely new game engine. This game could be Warcraft IV, since Blizzard first also used Warcraft III engine to test WoW.
