Very good movie... Ip man is better and doesn't have a weird premise behind it. I mean oldboy is tricked into commiting incest and then chooses to not remember and goes on "loving" his daughter. Again, good movie, weird premise.
this movie fucked up the guy in this tortured for 15 years in a small room kept imprisoned and all of this because of another guy who fucked his sister in school so this dude in this scene he saw them fucking in school began to spread rumours and shit the guy who fucked his sister then let her sister die she fell of a bridge. Nice fight that the only scene good about this stupid movie the rest is just bullshit!!! trust me
This is one of my favorite movie fights of all time. First, real fights have little to do with cinema fights because what's real usually doesn't transfer well on camera. Some things do but most don't. This is a compact place where a camera is substituting a wall. It gives the scene a feel of an old scroll video game. Finally, the over all acting is fabulous. He is out for blood and his enemies sense it. Yes, they are holding back but is because they fear him, even when they outnumber him.
Korean cinema is absolutely mind-numb. Its sheer brutality and graphic sense of purpose delivers a candor that leaves the viewer shocked and breathless all at the same time.
This kickboxing looks wholly Western not South Korean. While I was annoyed at the guys obviously holding back, they still did a great job acting in this scene. Thanks for the upload.
@xjxm They're pretty similar, you have to keep in mind that Western kickboxing has largely been influenced by Asiatic arts...100 years ago or so it was rare as hell to see people kicking in an actual staged fight (like a ring match, obviously street fighting is a bit different), it was more "fisticuffs" sort of fighting, nothing below the belt, no feet or knees. The introduction of Korean "Tae Kwon Do" really had an impact on things here in that regard.
What I love about this scene is the guy isn't some invincible superhero...he actually gets beat down a bit, and by the end he's completely exhausted. In an American flick he'd beat all these guys up without being hit and he'd be calmly fixing his hair in the next scene with barely a scratch. I mean, in reality this many people would kill pretty much anyone just by sheer numbers, but I like that Dae Su is actually just a guy, he get's hurt and he gets winded but fights through it...
@xjxm Exactly...not to mention in the standard martial arts kung fu flick everyone seems able to completely defy gravity, don't get me wrong, I love old kung fu movies, grew up with them. They have more of a "campy, fun" value to me though, this movie's fights felt a bit more...I guess "gritty" would be the word.
Saw this one for the first time at the theater before when it was first released in my area way back when. Subtitled, of course. Epic scene..Epic movie. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out in the upcoming remake.
@ajdp1995 You can say that again, I was totally taken aback when I heard it. I have heard his real voice which adds more to his passionate performance. Oh well I guess it's just me, but I like to hear the tones anyway this scene is a stunning visual.

Awesome. It's the first time I've seen a fight where the hero has a knife in his back during a portion of it.

@ZarathustrasCrown You mean in a stereotypical, Hong Kong, Kung Fu flick, right? The one where the Master takes on ten guys without breaking a sweat?
