Both my children started on cornet at age 8ish. My daughter progressed onto baritone with a bit of trombone. My son onto Eb horn then back to cornet.
She then went onto a "small " 3/4 size tuba as handling an instrument that size for marching etc takes a bit of practice particularly when you're not that tall. More recently progressed onto a full sized Eb and has developed the sound to play the Vaughn Williams concerto with local orchestra.
...A friend of mine asked for advice on whether her daughter should go into tuba as a first instrument. I recommended she first learn to play trumpet, trombone, baritone or euphonium. This gives the musician a chance to build her lung capacity as a tuba uses more air and makes the transition easier.
@mrvolvo10 If she wants to go to tuba, have her start on valved low brass like a baritone. This way she learned the finger combinations and the embouchre. Going from high to low or vise versa is fairly difficult.
Thanks . She has only been playing tuba for around two years so has a bit of technique to catch up on. Previously a baritone player. She's hoping to read music at Uni.
Felicitaciones!!!!!!
