  • On The House was the final classic winner for the late Harry Wragg before handing over to son Geoffrey.

Going into the Guineas, at least five other jockeys turned down the ride on the filly due to her lak lustre run in the Nell Gwynn Stks two weeks earlier. John Reid of course accepted and the rest is history.

If memory serves, Wragg had two other top class 3 yr old fillies that season called Dancing Rocks (Nassau Stakes) and French Group2 winner Zinzara.

A fine finale for a great trainer.

  • this was the race that Henry Cecil recently said was his biggest regret in racing: he didn't run Chalon (who I think had won the Fred Darling) and it hosed up in the 7f handicap before the 2,000 Guineas the day after. Still, On The House went on to win the Sussex Stakes, so she wasn't exactly no good...

  • thanks for posting i had her in a rteble and all three won great day!

  • 33/1. My dad had a fiver each way. He had tipped it having bought a video recorder. Betamax. Big wad of fivers on the mantle piece until mam bought a new washing machine.
