Also wanted to say how these vids are right up my alley: like the quick pace (can't stand waiting for people to speak uber slowly), love the literal translations, vocab, sentence drills, totally awesome dude
Thank you for providing these videos, they're really helpful. I really respect all of your work and admire it! Check out my language review videos on some of my books at this channel if you like sometime maybe :D
Could you write the sentences you are saying in the description box so we can do the practice exercise like your students? I think listening and pronouncing isn't enough, so I would like to do the homework portion that you suggested.
@ww99zh Actually, it is my students who write the sentences, not I. What you'll need are vocabulary to work with, so I'll add them to the description box.
I know that 3rd tones start low, go lower, then rise back up. But sometimes it seems like they just go really low and not back up, sort of like a lower version of a 4th tone. Am I just identifying them wrong, or does this happen? and if so, can it happen all the time or under certain restrictions? Thanks!
@darkmatter88 Yes this is the result of actual surface pronunciation, the way things sound in real life. Rules can't cover everything in real life. The third tone doesn't have to come back up. Good listening!

@Glossika I can see why a vocabulary list is better. Thank you for providing it.

One question, what is the "general rule" for using 的?
比如說, 你可以說, "這是我的媽媽" or "這是我媽媽"
You gave a similar example with "新的工作" or "新工作"
My question is, in what cases or situations will the "的" change
the meaning dramatically and is there a rule and I can follow
to help me know when, and when not to use it.
Thank you and I really enjoy your videos.
