My older female guinea pig is rumbling and swaying like that too and i have 2 girls. but the younger girl was pregnant when i brought her home and she had a little boy! before i thought my older girl Lulu was just trying to show her dominance but now the baby boy is doing it to its mother lol so confusing :D
This is perfectly normal behaviour for a male guinea pig. They make that purring or rumbling noise when they can smell a female guinea pig in their vicinity. The fact that it is a baby guinea pig makes no difference to the male, he can probably smell the scent of its mother and is instinctively doing what they do in the wild, to keep the guinea pig population going.
Is it normal for my 6 month old male guinea pig to do this to my 2 month old male guinea pig? I am 100% sure they are both males, not neutered because there is no reason to be.
They also like to chase eachother around the cage~!
my female guinea pig is doing the same exact thing to my other baby female guinea pig. i am sure they are both females. should i be concerned, are there other meanings?
the little one is very hyper and the closest thing i can relate to the behavior is that the bigger one is pissed off that shes so annoying lol. theyve been getting along fine other than this behavior
@allie2012marie This is usually a dominance behavior. Just double check and be very sure they are both females (because it can also be a sexual behavior) and keep eye on them as baby grows to make sure fighting doesn't start. If it does they may need separate pens ;)
@puppylovejewelry im doing an assignment at college to do with the behaviour of guinea pigs, this video is very helpful for me because i wasn't sure what rumblestrutting was, thanks for showing this.
@sian0151 It's a dominance thing. They may also spray, snap at each other, mount each other, or stand-off with their mouths wide open. Usually they won't attack each other, guinea pigs would rather look and act intimidating rather than get physical, but you need to watch and make sure things stay peaceful. Most times adult males won't take to another male because there can only be one dominant (alpha male or female) in a pack, That goes for females too, it's often difficult to introduce another.
@LainaT no worries! Mouskin (the baby) grew up all big and strong. He was scared of all the adult pigs at first-they usually are when you first bring them home. But they are too lonely having their own pen until they grow bigger. It is most natural to have them adjust to the adults so they can grow up with them :)
