In fact if you trained your self in its use you would be remarkably more self sufficient. And the shooting sports develop mental concentration. I have always wondered why a firearm in the hands of a government agent is a good thing but a firearm in the hands of a citizen is a bad thing to some people. Just another way to make sure we are less free.

I do agree that the 2nd ammend was put into place for that purpose, but it has run it usefulness. The US (as most first world countries) governments are not, and will not become tyrannical. Checks and balances in the system is much more effective, and has proven to be.

@Wlmitch1 You make some very good points. I think you missed the boat on who took over what though, I think it would be more correct to say the progressives have infiltrated both parties to the point that the politcal lines have been blurred. The Tea Party movement is a clear indication of that.

There is no hope of expelling them from the Democratic Party in our lifetimes, but there is still hope of expelling them from the Republican Party if we act fast.

Perhaps Mr. Giuliani would like to comment on the shooting of 2 cadet police officers about a year or two ago in NYC. They weren't allowed to carry guns, (even though they qualified) and stumbled on a robbery that left them dead.
That wasn't the NRA's fault, that was the fault of YOUR friends, like Bloomberg, Kennedy, Kerry, and the rest who denied them their right to self defense. Oh but politicians are never wrong, only people are..(sarcasm)

Isn't the premise of living in a free society to be free the right to pursue what you like as long as you don't interfere with the rights of others? We also have some of the toughest gun controls in the world by POPULAR CONSENT and guess what.... one of the LOWEST rates of gun murders. A grand total of 42 murders in 2008- not even one a day.
