  • First season great... Second season not so good.., writing and plots are not tight.

  • I give Portlandia in general a C+. It's just "ok".

  • Just want to say, I fucking love your hair :3 that is all.

  • who gives a shit that you dont give a shit.....really, making a video of "not your opinions, but some of my friends opinions" no one gives a shit about your friends, form your own opinions and dont make videos of it......blaming portland's gayness on the midwesterners haha......the show is funny cuz portland is wack

  • Every city has it's stereotypes. SHE IS REALLY NOT A HIPSTER. In my opinion. To me hipsters are 11 year old girls that think they can go clubbing and war these high waisted shorts and look like sluts. Fucking society ruined them. You don't even know this chick.

  • Look at this modern day retard...oh i mean this 'Hipster'.... i love portlandia cuz they make fun of portland so good.

  • yeah you actuallylook exactly like you are frum Portland and that is why the show exists.

  • people of this day and age really ARE that stupid. . . Sad but true

  • I was born and raised in Portland but moved to the UK to get away from my family. After watching some clips from Portlandia I have decided that it's changed too much. I've been gone 15 years. Most of these people were babies when I left. I feel sad. My home is gone. And I see no humor in the show. Sorry.

  • No, I didn't know you were from Portland - but to be honest, I didn't fucking care either.

  • obvious liberal hipster is obvious.

  • Your eyes are gorgeous!

  • @SaltTheBand That's what I was thinking. I just like her eyes a whole lot.

  • "my opinion is entirely apathetic." Basically the slogan the American generation born after 1990.

  • I DON'T GIVE A SHIT SO I WATCHED THIS VIDEO! WOOOO!!!!

  • People take themselves waaaaay to seriously

  • Im from portland too! :D

  • Im from Portland too!

  • I like the show.

  • Holy crap! I'm from Portland too.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that a nose retainer?

  • 'that one chick', carrie brownstein, is from portland... she's in sleater kinney...

  • lol last 5 seconds of video kinda supports the stereotype, anyway being from portland I think the show is only about a small portion of the city, but is accurate in an exaggerated sort of way. I still like the show, and think that they should develop some of the characters.

  • IT'S A COMEDY. SRSLY?! IT IS SATIRE.

  • Ha ha ha! This has garnered a lot of rash comments, considering she never takes a bold stance for or against, and seems rather non-committal throughout, unconcerned. I just moved to Portland four months ago, and I like it so far. I think the whole "super-organic food, ten syllable coffee order" thing gets a little old, but this place is amusing. I like the kitschy shops, the art everywhere, the cafes. THe show is pretty funny, and definitely shows some of the extremes around here. I keep watchi

  • Comment removed

  • Instead of being rude and making rash judgements about someone you do not know you can be MATURE and value the fact that she is entitled to her own opinion. Just saying. :)

  • Loosen up. The show is funny. It's not just representative of Portland, but pretty much all of the west coast as far as hipsters and hippies go...and you know what, it's hilariously accurate...and it's SUPPOSED to be a exaggerated! And hun, you seem like a bit of hipster yourself.

  • @MissBethezda You seem to have misunderstood my opinion a bit. I said I think the show if funny and obviously somewhat accurate, but that I just don't really like long skits. I know it's supposed to be exaggerated. I'm not insulted by it by any means, I was talking about my friends opinions on the show, not so much my own. I'm quite apathetic toward the whole thing.

  • she is hot

  • I don't understand why anyone would take the show all that seriously....

  • @ilovemytophes I honestly don't either.

  • I'm from Portland and i think this show is hilarious. Like, I was cracking up the whole time because people truly act that way. The sad thing is, people that are dumpster diving and asking about organic chicken take themselves seriously.

  • It's exactly like Portland.

  • Leave it to a Portlander to take a show like this way too seriously.

  • @shibbie68 I don't take the show seriously, I have some friends however that do. Please do get it straight.

  • @HaleyVlogs I don't get from this that you are taking it too seriously. it's just a discussion. Thanks for posting it. I liked it.

  • @shibbie68 Arbitrary meanness is out of style now. Just an FYI.

  • I like how she said portland is a big city, cuz it is and all.....

  • ALL THAT THIS VIDEO DOES IS REINFORCE THE IDEAS THE SHOW LAMPOONS. YOU ARE EXACTLY THE KIND OF HIPSTER PORTRAYED IN THE SHOW. I'm from seattle and we have the same stupid hipsters here, i'm so glad fred has done this to show how fucking stupid these people and this social movement are. I can't wait to get the fuck out of this region of the country.

  • @djrn I never said the show wasn't accurate, hell, never watched enough of it to really make that judgement myself.

  • Speaking of annoying, get the laptop off your when when your filming. The jitter is annoying.

  • If not for Portlandia I would have never gotten interested in visiting there. Because of this show and my friends who moved out there i visited for a week, fell in love, and plan to move there by years end. Totally hilarious show and a lot LOT of it is true to Portland from the week that I visited I hit up quite a few of the spots in the show (Lucky Devil & Gilt Club). Keep Portland Weird!

  • have you seen the episode about the bicyclist? this show is dead on!

  • When I lived in Portland, I couldn't handle all the hippies and goofball shit I encountered, being a native East Coaster and naturally sarcastic. Now that I'm back East with all the rude assholes and "attytood" I do miss Portland - the clean streets, the politeness (even though it's fake). And I have to say that practically ALL of the weirdos I met in Portland WERE from the Midwest and California. The native Portlanders were the nicest, most genuine people I met. Too bad it's so transient.

  • I attend PNCA, which is pretty much the hipster anthill of Portland...Portlandia is pretty fucking accurate.

IMHO hipsters are a joke, the bigger joke is when they don't know it.

I am a native Portlander...and have lived here much too long.

  • @Greenberry09 Everyone seems to hate where they're from. I'm from Philly, which I DETEST beyond words and I moved out to Beaverton, which I LOVED but had to work in Portland, which, eh, was nice enough, but the weird stuff got to me. Believe me, you would fall in love with your city again if you ever experienced the garbage dump that IS the East Coast of America. All that being said, Portlandia is definitely very accurate. I would tell people back home about this stuff and nobody'd believe me.

  • Like all the hipsters.... she trys sooo hard. Newsflash, YOU are a hipster and the worst kind that somehow think you are not because you are so "original".

  • @Rich711 That was one of the things I'd laugh about when I lived there. Everyone claimed to be unique and expressing themselves, yet they all had the same Asian character tattoos, and piercings, and everyone looked the same and dressed the same and believed all the same things and if you weren't "different" you were not accepted. It was hypocrisy to the nth degree.

  • @Rich711 I don't think I'm original at all. The opinions I talk about in this video aren't even my own. I don't know or care if I'm a hipster or not, but I get annoyed of people like you who clearly don't know me trying to decide exactly who and what I am and attempting to insult me through said action.

  • @HaleyVlogs your from Portland one of my favorite bands of all time are from there the (Wipers) obviously that's were my user name came from I made a comment on your video about religion but an error occurred I agree with you 100 percent about how silly the whole thing is, such as why would dinosaurs walk the earth before us and why would we start off as apes if god is supposed to be a man and how would anyone know how many days it took for him to create the world unless he sent down a book lol

  • @HaleyVlogs also I just want to say I think your gorgeous

  • Portland rocks, and so does that show. I think they got it pretty spot on. Especially the bike riding and the 'is it local?' folks

  • I want to put a bird on you

  • Hey, hello, hey, hi... hey VLOGGING IS OVER!

  • LOOKIN A LITTLE SAN FRANCISCO RIGHT NOW

  • OH MY GOD- WHO-THE-HELL-CARES

  • I like the show its pretty good and i am from portland and yeah ummm chicken wings are pretty damn good

  • you're hot

  • It's just an instinctual migration pattern of mid-western youths. We emerge from our corn fields and just dick around either New York or Portland for a few years, mostly in an attempt to find mates. And then we either decide that we like that kind of pretentious Neverland lifestyle and fade into obscurity with our hair braided into dreadlocks, or the novelty wears off and our parents stop sending us money and we go back home to fade into obscurity living in their basement.

  • The dream of the 90's is alive...

  • generalize generalize like the show

  • It's about time someone saw the humor of the current culture in certain West coast cities. The east coast and mid west have endured jabs forever from the west coast hipsters. But the difference is that they don't turn it around and blame it all on 'non-natives dude.' That kind of denial is a perfect example of why the humor in this show is so spot on.

West coast culture is exported to the rest of the country, not the other way around.

  • Nobody cares.

  • She seems pretty reasonable to me. If it were up to me, I'd say that Carrie Brownstein should get a little more credit for her creative effort, but it's obviously not too high a priority for person expressing her opinion here. My family moved to the Portland area back in the Dust Bowl days, so the place has actually had more of a pioneer flavor than a hipster flavor for me. But there is no doubt that Portland faces the stereotype of being a haven for hipsters, and the show is good satire.

  • But it's hilarious to make fun of Portland because it's weird. At least the only hipsters in Chicago are those in the "art scene." *Shudder* It's over! The art scene is over!

  • Uhh.. you people do realize she's not bashing on the show right? She's posting her opinion and agrees with some basis of the show. Probably should turn the volume up on your speakers and listen to what she's saying instead of mocking her appearance.

  • I'm not knocking your look at all, (you're actually cute), but it's ironic and a little funny how you claim that Portland is misrepresented, yet you have the full on nose piercing-dark makeup-pale look with the headband tied on. LOL, you're pretty much representing the of a stereotype of what someone would expect to see in Portland.

  • I like your video. I just do. Portlandia? hmm, I dunno,,, I agree that the music video "Dream of the 90's" should have been a beginning and end in itself. But of course it doesn't represent Portland in a positive light. I mean, how could it? Comedians make their living making fun of stuff. Personally, all the stuff they blow out of proportion on the show, are things we love about our city. And we won't stop loving it because of any show. Love ya'll

  • LOL listen to this chick. You're cute hunney, but you should be on this show.

  • do you realize you just proved the show accurate. you should go down and be on the show.

  • why is everyone bashing this girl? shes just expressing her opinion on the show.

  • People shouldn't be offended. I am from Bend, which is pretty much Portland without a skyline. As in, there are shit tonnes of hipsters, punks, eco-friendly individuals, such and such. People from Portland, and basically all of Oregon should be happy about this show, because now there is something that is actually putting Portland/Oregon on the map.

  • Well, if you cant laugh at yourself....

  • @MegaGreengod this is one fine day to be nude.

  • @myPlaygroundEarth , Birds are singing Clinton have a wonderful Spring!

  • O dear --- you are the stereotype === It's OVER

  • Nerdfighter! "In my pants" lol :) SOLIDARITY WHAT

Also, Portlandia would be kickass funny if it were about San Francisco (which it almost pretty much is), because those assholes really deserve to be made fun of. You guys seem pretty nice from what I've experienced! :)

  • I pretty much agree with you. To be very offended by it is probably to have a fragile personality insulted.

  • Ignorant. You should not use racial slurs in your video commentary.

  • Yeah you look like you are from Portland...that is to say. You are a stereotype.

  • Interesting...So that's where those f-ing hipsters came from then!?? Send them back to the mid-west PLEASE!!!! I really do dislike Hipsters nasty appearance and Paps Blue Ribbon smelliness!! I would much rather belong to the Guido's!!

  • I've lived in both the West Coast (SF and Portland) and NJ and honestly, I rather deal with guidos than these hippy / hipsters. They are all predictable. It's like a fascist state: everyone MUST think the same, even eat the same stuff. There is absolutely NOTHING weird about them. In fact, it's like you with your piercings, you're so normal your bland and need them to seem eccentric. And THAT"S why I hate the west coast.

  • My honest opinion of the show is that its hilarious. The "Put a Bird on it" and "Hide and Seek" episodes are comic gold. I have friends in Portland and have visited several times over the years and we laugh because its a exagerated impression of Portland...its a show its funny people shouldnt take themselves so seriously. Also that one chick is actually Carrie Brownstein from a little band called Sleater Kinney. Thanks and also you are adorable!

  • i love the show but there are lots of towns in other states that mirror portlandia. on a side note if you took out that nose ring you would look a lot better just saying haha =]

  • I'm from Portland, and I think you talked too much about this and I'm not sure why you posted this video, and people that get mad about the show, thats just dumb and they obviously arent from Portland cause people from there dont worry about dumb shit like a tv show.

  • wher you live i live in portland not a pedo

  • This post (though I understand what you mean sweetheart) is a perfect candidate for a sketch on the show. The show is brilliant.

  • This girl has a nose ring and her hair is bleached. It is obvious the jokes in Portlandia are very accurate.

  • It's basically trying to tell you, that you are living a fad. And you all should be too old to be so into such a thing. Use your own brain.

  • I think getting offended by the show is exactly the joke that's worth laughing at. People need to get over themselves.

  • @theNoztube Fully agreed with their - its the Political Correctness army and halfwits inclined that generally dont like everyone else finding out this current degenerate thinking/lifestyle is just a joke

  • I think getting offended by the show is exactly the joke that's worth laughing at. People need to get overthemselves.

  • You're misrepresenting an intelligent person.

  • I live in North Portland and I think it's hillarious. It's a great representation of Portland and its diversity. Of course its meant to be funny. If you don't think its funny, maybe its because you see yourself in who they poke fun at. Comeon, a bull ring? thats SO OVER!!!

  • @guitardude7889 It's not that I don't think it's funny, I do actually thing it's funny. I just get really bored of skits really fast. That's all. Just not my type of show really. Believe me, I make fun of myself all the time, bull ring included.

  • you're the kind of person that this show is mocking.

  • You are a fucking idiot. Stop talking to your webcam and find a real friend

  • @tundrasaurus Dont swear at a lady please

  • I would do her.

  • the shows funny,

    who cares about anything else?

live to laugh, laugh to live.

    by the way.

    you. are. beautiful.

  • The fact she dresses and places the same shrapenel on her face as the people in the show and yet claims its only a stereotype is the greatest joke of all

Infact the show really is designed to show how stupid these luny ideologies and sub-cultures are

  • @oioioi3000 I never said it was just a stereotype, I said there is definitely some truth to the stereotypes. And please tell me what my luny ideologies are. I'd love to hear it. I'm sure I do have a few, but from the bits of the show I have seen I didn't really fit any of them. Appearance wise, yes, I completely fit the stereotype. I don't pretend otherwise.

  • @HaleyVlogs Well you did say throughout your video that Portlandia was based on stereotypes and generally from my experience in debates or discussions most people do not Like the idea of their argument or arguments being sterotyped - However I agree "stereotypes" or general assumptions are not bad and sometimes not to far from the truth. As I recall I said the SHOW not YOURSELF demonstrates a comedy on the luny ideologies of feminism, reality lacking "intellectuals" and 60's hippie lifestyles

  • @HaleyVlogs Note I said "these luny ideologies and sub-cultures" not you but the studs in the nose makes me suspect. But really why would you want to follow this type of sub-culture? At least if you were espaniol or germanic culture then a lot of substance. Of course you could go Aussie culture which is NO.1

  • wtf? you're fucking stupid

  • @FlSHFLUSH dont swear at a lady

  • damned young people who retired in portland complaining. Grin. As some one who is a native northwestener Lets face it it is an exageration but odds are if you have been the least bit involved in the arts, or womens causes, or gone to a semi hip bar you know someone who fits some of the skits. From Vancouver, to Sea-Tac, to Evergreen State College, Portland out to the north end of my hometown Boise, you know 1 co-op, dumpster diver, fixed gear, melodramatic, self involved hypocrite probably.

  • @potatoradio Oh I know plenty of people that fit the stereotype. My friends just hate the people that fit into the stereotype the show makes fun of, and it pisses them off for Portland to be represented by them. I personally don't give a crap.

  • "You are the stereotype" and "omg irony" are just observations, not insults. If you find that insulting, its probably because the truth hurts.

  • also, alot of people in portland are really like people in portlandia, its a city! It has a muuuuuuch smaller population than new jersey, so you cant say all people in new jersey are guidos, because your generalizing an entire state, but if you say all portlanders are hipsters, it could definitely be true because of the smaller population.

  • Comment removed

  • That's the great thing about Portlandia. The more popular it gets, the more it ironically makes being a hipster less cool. Sorry to invade on your little world, boners!

  • @basskick10

holy shit, we need to make being a hipster super mainstream! Theres still hope of eradicating the hipsters!

  • Haha I like your point about Jersey Shore. But, yea, I think that people that get offended by this kind of thing need to just chill out. I'm not from Portland, but I visit there at least twice a year, and I've seen the stereotypes, but that's all they are. If there was a show stereotyping Klamath Falls citizens, I would find it hilarious.

  • "It's misrepresenting Portland!"

Honestly, Portland is a shithole, I'm sure this will not damage it's prestigious image.

  • @TheOriginalEllemar lol you obviously have never been to portland...

  • @TheOriginalEllemar Oh I don't care how it represents Portland, it's just some of my friends that do.

  • @TheOriginalEllemar

Oh please, it's no shittier than just about any other city of equal or greater size in the US.

  • @TheOriginalEllemar PORTLAND, a shithole? Perhaps Peoria or even Klamath Falls, but I actually think Portland is very nice...

  • @TheOriginalEllemar Actually, you don't know the meaning of the word shithole until you've lived here in Filthadelphia. I'd give my right arm for the politeness and the cleanliness of Portland again, even if I had to put up with the wackos there.

  • Comment removed

  • Does her shirt have a bird on it?

  • Why do we care what you think, again?

  • @ellenhutchxx I didn't expect so many people to, but apparently people do care considering how many people ended up watching this and commenting on it. I didn't really expect much of a response or for anyone to really give a shit.

  • @HaleyVlogs ...Just because they watch it and/or commented, doesn't mean they care...Some people just watch it to make fun of it.

  • "Caricature" I think is the term we're looking for here. A reflection of something in a fun-house mirror, maybe.

  • @Adam23Ant

a hipster in a fun house mirror is still a hipster.

  • to a degree

  • I thought the show is really creative and well put together. If you don't see this show as a representative of Portland, then you are not getting out enough into the Weird to experience it. Portland offers a much different atmosphere than any other major city I have been in. Keep it Weird Portland.

  • This chick need to chill out ( I have friends in Portland and they say the show is miss representing the town) it's a fucking tv show. In reality u should be happy something even half as good as that show is even on.

  • @TheBuddylove420 You do realize I don't have a problem with the show, right? I was talking about some of my friends' opinions and why they have a problem with the show.

  • @TheBuddylove420 I agree that it's just a fucking tv show. I don't agree with my friends, I was just talking about their opinions...

  • @TheBuddylove420 haha, seriously, dude... she seems completely chill. I'd like to live where you live if chill, to you, is chiller than this response to the show.

  • She is very right in this video, but nose rings are OVER!!!

  • your hot

  • you are a parody of yourself

  • Lived in and around Portland for about 22 years now. The show is a little bit exaggerated, but in some ways it even falls short of some of the weird things and people I've seen around here. HaleyVlogs is right when she says that most of the hipsters the show represents came from outside of Portland so really Portlandia is about a bunch of foreigners who decided to move to Portland because they got the idea in their mind that this is the place for people like them to congregate and live.

  • hahaha

  • So, I live in Laguna Beach, Orange County, (aka the most misrepresented place in the world by the media), and it's really no use to get offended by it. You have to learn to laugh at yourself and others in your community, and realize the shows aren't an attempt to perfectly represent and entire population, but rather to focus on particular groups, or the concepts of particular groups. "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention."

  • Comment removed

  • I just saw the show and I live i'n Portland

The show is funny but has nothing to do with Portland they

Take all there jokes to far and over exadirate everything

  • Portland isn't a big city , sorry.

  • LOOK... a new character for Portlandia.

  • why do people have such a knee-jerk reaction of being total douchebags? She is a sweet girl who is just sharing her opinion. What the fuck? Why can't any of you just do the same, in a respectful way? What happened to decency? Do we have to insult people when we disagree with their opinions?

  • Just so you know, outside of the Pacific Northwest, no one knows stereotypes about Portland... New Jersey, yes; NYC, yes; LA, yes; Chicago, yes. But... before this show, I had NO IDEA there were so many hipsters in Portland! For instance. I really knew nothing about Portland at all, except that it was a boring version of Seattle.

  • jeez 17k views so mainstream

  • Sleater Kinney is not from portland. nothing good came from portland, maybe the hipsters should go home and leave us the fuck alone.

    \

  • Why do hipsters always talk about hipsters as if they aren't one?

  • wow. vapid.

  • wow. vapid.

  • "That one chick" is Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney, one of the best bands to ever come out of Portland.

  • wow if all the girls from Portland are as pretty as you, then I think I know where I'm moving to after college.

  • I think someone is knocking on your door.

  • "That one chick" has a name, its Carrie Brownstein... and she is awesome.

  • To me, the joke isn't the stereotypes. The joke is that the characters are so busy trying to cultivate their image that they don't bother trying to understand the ideas and aesthetics they claim to embrace (e.g. "Did you read?"). They're so busy trying to make sure that their friends know that they read Mother Jones that they don't bother thinking about the articles. I agree that hipsters are not the only clique doing this, but their smugness (yes, they are smug) makes them an attractive target.

  • just goes to prove the credo; "If you can't laugh at yourself, we'll do it for you"

  • @handymandan100

    HA! I love it.

  • You proved the show.

  • portland is great. Who cares? it's funny and good. let the dumb yuppie suburbia fat fucks watch it.

  • I think you take yourself a bit too seriously.

  • I'm sorry, you probably hear this a lot but omg irony, you are the stereotype. Right guys? Right!?

  • 1. Who cares if she's wearing a bandana it looks great on her 2. She's beautiful and doesn't need crap from ignorant people talking about gangsters
