  • alguien me puede decir de que opera es el aria del minuto 2:21 al 2:54, gracias

  • Could you please say what are the pieces in the clip? Especially the last one :D

  • @nitchoteles The first two and last two clips are both from "Die Zauberflote" (The Magic Flute) by Mozart. :)

  • Perhaps, the funniest soprano ever!

    She's great <3

  • great

  • c'est superbe

  • She sings too hard. I can hear the strain she puts on her voice. No wonder she had nodes

  • @2002obie Yes I agree...her French Lucie and Queen of the Night are examples. I like that in her more recent work, she's really learned to use her voice intelligently and less forcefully (i.e. 2011 Lucia and Cleopatra) - I guess she always thought that since she had a smaller voice, she needed to compensate by singing louder.

  • @SsteinwayS I loved, loved, loved the Paris 2911 Cleopatra video. Several people were excellent in that production, but Natalie was fantastic. The CD is very good too, but her acting in the video is phenomenal.

  • @MrHbc3 Agree! The things she does while singing is crazy...she's such a physical performer...leaping about, lying down, dancing, etc. What a musical athlete! btw if you made a typo...if she's still singing in 2911, let me know!! :P

  • @SsteinwayS Yes, but it seems to me that her leaping about, lying down, dancing, etc. all illustrate characteristics of the person she is representing. In Cleopatra's case "the person" is a young, spirited, emotionally volatile young woman without a lot of inhibitions. Brave, scared, proud of herself, despondent, enthusiastic, all that sort of thing including being very much enamored of her "victim" Caesar. I think Natalie takes very good care of her health, but 2911 IS a bit optimistic.

  • @MrHbc3 @MrHbc3 Hehe...just kidding. But actually I think her presentation on the disc is much closer to her real interpretation, a noble but fragile, aggressive but graceful woman. In interviews for her debut Cleopatra in Paris, she said in the that production it's portraying her more as a "jeune fille" than a real Queen. But even so, yes she still goes through a phenomenal character kaleidoscope of emotions. I can't wait to see what her Met Cleopatra in around 2013 will be like...

  • @2002obie I prefer Diana Damrau :)

  • Although I prefer her singing of Grossmachtige Prinzessin on the 2003 Met version, gotta admit that her acting in the Laurent Pelly production always makes me laugh out loud.

  • @regulargonzalez Hehe totally agree...though at the time I made this video, I'd never ever seen the 2003 version yet...thank goodness it's posted now! :)

  • 0:47-0:49 Ouch! My ear!

  • Hehe...the Queen of the Night sings just too high for poor Pamina! Although, funny enough, Dessay has sung Pamina as well :P

  • "dramatic intensity, incredible technique, and diversity of my favourite colouratura soprano"

  • Hehe :) Do you share the same sentiments?

  • @SsteinwayS of course i do.

  • Yay! Gotta love Madame Dessay!! :)

  • @SsteinwayS do you know why she had to take surgery?? And why her high notes are so squeaky and more unpleasant? I like her very much, but now i like only her older recordings...sorry for my very bad english (i'm twelve and from germany...:))

  • @SsteinwayS Do you know why she had to take surgery? Is it me or why do i think that her high notes are NOW more unpleasant and squeakier? I love her, but NOW i love only her before-surgery-recordings. Sorry for my bad english...

  • Your English is very good! I know that of course (my friend and I are her biggest fans)! But her high notes ARE less pleasant now, but in a way almost more exciting because they sound more difficult. Check out the Bach cantatas she recorded that I posted - they are after surgery, but still show off her colouratura and beautiful voice! I think people don't realize that she's still got a very beautiful lyrical voice even though her high notes are gone! High notes aren't everything! :)

  • @SsteinwayS thanks...i'm twelve years old and from germany. You're right, high notes are'nt everything, and her VOICE is beautiful!

  • I'm glad you enjoy this great music at such an early age! I myself am only 17 from Canada though :P I think I might put a video together soon with some of the great things she's done recently :)

  • @SsteinwayS Do you sing, too?

  • Well, I recently got my diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music but though I don't really tell people, I sing little lieder and arias occasionally when I'm alone at home :) I'm a bass...so hearing Dessay's high notes are so amazing for me because I'm on the opposite end!

  • AMACING!!!

  • AMAZZZZING!! :)

  • Fenomenale

  • what's the aria's name @ 2:20?

  • It's the Frühlingsstimmenwalzer (the famous "Voices of Spring" waltz), opus 410 by Johann Strauss II (not from any opera).

  • Der Holle Rache

  • No...at 2:20 it's the part of the Frühlingsstimmenwalzer with the high A-flat..."Der Hölle Rache" is the aria at the beginning.

  • WHAT??? from 0:30 and on der holle rache is a semi-tone higher??? omg...anyway if natalie wasnt married with kids i would fly all the way to france and KIDNAP HER! BWAHAHAHA!!

  • It may sound that way because people on recordings (especially old video/audio recordings) sound either higher or lower because the recording equipment isn't that great. And unfortunately, you're too late...I've already kidnapped her!! WAHAHA! :P

  • oh damn.....

  • She's my CAPTIVE! All mine...sorry....

  • Recently I actually uploaded an altered version of "Der Holle Rache" a semi-tone higher :P

  • jeez man....the incredible human body...ehs is amazing or what???

    a trully gift from heaven

    5/5

  • The incredible human body and voice...of Natalie Dessay! I love her - she's amazing! She really demonstrates a high point of vocal achievement!

  • hey can u please tell me what aria she sings at 4:10??

  • Why, it's the very famous aria "Sempre libera" from the opera "La Traviata" by Verdi! She's singing the title role for the first time this summer!!

  • oooooooooooooh!! thnx a lot *__*

  • You're welcome!

  • @killerbunny123123 la traviata, sempre libera.

  • Who's the tenor that was "inserted" into the Sempre Libera? :))

  • The one who sang on her "Sempre libera" on her new album "Italian Opera Airs". I'll try to find out for you :)

  • Oh, it's Roberto Alagna, in a lovely "cameo appearance" :)

  • Ah, thank you. Thank you.

  • No problemo :P

  • what are all the operas in this video? Or at least what is the first one?

  • First four clips: Die Zauberflöte ("Der Hölle Rache" and "O zittre nicht") by Mozart

Next two: Frühlingstimmenwaltzer (not from an opera) by Strauss

    Next one:

Next two: Adriadne auf Naxos ("Grossmächtige Prinzessin") by Strauss (a different one)

Next one: La Traviata ("Sempre libera") by Verdi

Last one: Die Zauberflöte ("Nur stille stille stille")

Hope it helps in your journey through opera!

  • thank you soooooo much!!!!-

  • No problem! I hope it helped :)

  • All of these "Best of Natalie Dessay" start and end with the same opera/oratorio (except for the last, where a different one's slapped on the end).

  • Oh sorry...forget to mention that the first title is the opera and the stuff in brackets in the aria, or song. :)

  • thanks!!! Isn't she just simply amazing?

  • She definitely is! That's why I compiled these clips :)

  • great job! are you going to put the lucia mad scene at the met? (don't remember if you put it in the 1st video ^^)

  • Thanks :) I am definately putting in the Lucia mad scene at the Met! She's fantastic there (well, everywhere really...). I put in the end of "Spargi d'amaro pianto" in the first one, but it was from a recital-ish thing after her surgery - the one in the documentary "La voix"?

  • yes it was this one! ^^ I especially love the lucia mad scene because the videos tat I posted from the mad scene were the videos that started my "youtube career" ^^

  • And a lovely "YouTube career" you have! :)

  • thank you! I do my best :-P

  • Because you are DessayBESTSinger :)

  • tsssss xD

  • Everyone loves a bad pun ;)

  • Oh hey! I say under "Statistics & Data" you linked this video to your SkyRock site! Hurrah! :)

  • hehe yes^^, I'm going to put the other ones :-P

  • Huzzah :)

  • If you've seen the clip with Natalie singing "Sempre libera", you'll noticed that here the tenor part has been edited in :)

  • Thats so neat! Thanks! THis is great!

  • :) Thank you! I love how it turned out; seems like there is actually a tenor in there with her. I pulled it from "Italian Opera Airs" :)

  • yes, it's alagna^^ but instead of saying 'Amor è palpito dell'universo' he says 'Amor è palpito, amor è palpito' ^^
