Especially with the fact that your body is already holding the flute up to the side in an unnatural position, then having to turn your body to the left or right would cause you to have to contort your body even more. Not to mention, since our instruments are played to the side and not in front of us, we would either hit someone in the back or front of the head every time. It wouldn't be very pretty.

When people see my fellow Trombones and I do the Gauntlet "suicides", the stop what they're doing, and cheer. Three times as fast, at least, and we change it up. First the Gauntlet, which is what you're doing, but cooler, faster, and with a lot more motion, actually getting into every move, and then the Guillotine, adding jumps and spins into it while we narrowly avoid decapitation. It's so much more beautiful then a Tuba or a Trumpet "suicide", there is hardly any risk those kind of Gauntlets.
