"'Moon River' was written for her. No one else had ever understood it so completely. There have been more than a thousand versions of 'Moon River', but hers is inquestionably the greatest" -- Henry Mancini
Audrey Hepburn's version of Moon River in the movie is wonderful because she wasn't a singer...it was so pure and natural and real. Andy Williams version is flawless with his outstanding voice and timing. ummm, REM? no
I think it's the best cover I've heard. I love the original shown in the movie. The whole point of the song is that it's plainly simple and delicate and pretty. It was written to fit Audrey Hepburn's narrow vocal range. I think there's nothing worse than someone singing a cover of this song and even attempting to be on parr with the original. I think R.E.M's subtle version nails it. It's effortless, as the song should be.
Dear YouTube friends: Ms. Audrey Hepburn will never be forgotten. She was simply perfect.Every man's dream. She loved the poor children of Africa and the world's, she loved animals. I wish Hollywood stars could do the same, do charity works, saving children and animals.BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S IS WONDERFUL. Ms. Audrey Hepburn and Mr. george Peppard (and the CAT!) are the most beautiful and marvellous screen couple. There shall never be another B@T, stars and cast.
@pncombies Dear YouTube friends/Dearest pncombies: I still and will ever think Breakfast at Tiffany's is my favorite movie. I do miss Ms. Audrey Hepburn, Mr. George Peppard and my so beloved CAT every day. I wish I could watch B@T all the time. I love NY. Thank you so much, my Friend pncombies for your kind words. It is heartfelt.

There are your good friends: people who love you. And then there are your huckleberry friends: people who've known you for years and have stuck by you and love you no matter what. This is from urban dictionary . c o m .
Perfect definition. Going to use that forever. And this isn't a great cover but who cares? I love the fact that it moved that very young band(1983--they couldn't have been out of their twenties !) to do this studio one off.
Amazing scene and I love the song as well, however this version, as most have said, is not brilliant, I much prefer Mancini's version at the beginning and Audrey Hepburn singing it, for despite the fact they didn't let her sing in My Fair Lady, I believe she had the perfect voice for this movie.
Actually, the TRUE original is the version Henry Mancini did. While Audrey did a fabulous job of singing it for the movie, it's Mancini's award winning official song that's most credited.
And this version is R.E.M.? Where did this come from? Something went wrong.
Actually, Henri Mancini wrote the music to specifically fit Audrey's vocal range for the movie "Breakfast at tiffany's." So if it hadn't been for Audrey singing the song in the movie, neither Mancini nor Johnny Mercer (lyrics) would have won the Oscar for Best Song.
I agree: I don't particularly like the R.E.M. version, but I guess most performers want to sing the song at one point or another.
I know that Mancini wrote it specifically wrote it for Hepburn, but it's his song at the beginning of the movie that won the oscar. I know how much influence Hepburn had on the actual song, but it was the outcome of his song that makes it seem like the original and first version.
Suddenly, the music stops, and Audrey Hepburn looks at George Peppard and exclaims, "I ain't gettin' on no PLANE, Hannibal!"
