No mystery here. This is a Mk3 or Mk 4 20mm Hispanno cannon. Very similar to those mounted on Mk5 and up Spitfires, Mk2 hurricanes, and also mounted in the nose positions on Avro Shackletons. The long rod with 2 lugs on recocks the Belt feed mechanism every time the gun recoils. The BFM is a feeder/delinker assy that throws a round in front of the breech block on its rearward stroke. Used to work on these guns in the RAF. Hope this helps

This is a M3 20mm Cannon.
Same as used in the Douglas AD Skyraider.
It fires a percussion primed round, not electrical like the Mk 12 or Vulcan.
