  • Change toilet. Achievement unlocked - "Manhood". Americans... xD Sorry. just had to lol here.

  • If you need any help with Hyper-V let me know, We are running 556 Hyper V Hosts (3 per district), 3 Clusters with HA (7 nodes on 14, 10 nodes + 3 nodes over at COT). And VMM :)

  • @vltek Thanks, Chris! Mark over at the tower runs a few nodes and has offered support as well. I think I'm going to end up on ESXi though, since my boss can't really prove that we're actually licensed to use MS Win 2k8 datacenter...

  • @thisweekinlinux Understand, those datacenter licenses are special.

  • Greeting from Jordan (my country)

  • Good luck with the house :)

  • I would agree with your friend about using VMware, but if you have licensing for Hyper-V already I would say just use that. VMware does have the free version but you won't get the fail over features without either paying out the ass for the upgrade or using a third party tool.

Hyper-V isn't all bad though. We are using it in house (along with Hyper-V) and it has come a long way since it first was introduced. It is way more manageable then a lot of solutions out there.

  • Cant Go wrong with a fedora hat. :P

  • How big/important is this server?

  • @BinaryLinux small-medium (dual quad core xeons, either E5410 or E5310, not sure..., 12+ Gb RAM, 400Gb HDD space + 12Tb SAN) -- probably two of them, for failover/redundancy.

How important? Immediately, not at all. In the long run, it will hopefully host everything we do (SQL, IIS, print svr, McAfee ePO, Windows Update Server, Microsoft KMS (licensing) server, etc.)

  • i have a feeling who that one dislike is

  • @pcmuzicpro orly? Lol. :P

  • I've used Hyper-V. It works...

  • @TWILTalks what company do you work for? Sounds really interesting!

  • @hamofgrey the state of Kentucky.

  • Coincidence: 3 of my colleagues here started wearing hats similar to yours after Christmas !

  • you sould try proxmox as that is enterprised approved if i can remember correctly you can take alook at proxmox.com and see if that fits your needs

  • @MrLightning247 perhaps enterprise approved for some places, but not here. The standards they make us follow are a bit ridiculous...

  • @TWILTalks Let me guess: STATE OF KENTUCKY STANDARDS... Use Windows

  • Miss your videos.

  • Lol all I have are DIY videos on the right of this

  • With the hat on you kinda remind me Notch! (You know, the creator of Minecraft?)

  • Love the hat. I've got a couple of Fedoras myself, though the brim isn't quite as long.

  • I don't really understand licenses, but is virtualbox good enough for your needs?

  • @emucosmos sadly, no. I think the key thing here is going to be that we're only allowed to use certain products in the state government, meaning, at this point, either VMWare (which is extremely expensive) or Microsoft's Hyper-V, which we have licenses for provided through our enterprise agreement.

It's not fair, and it's not what I'd like, but I'm stuck.

  • good shows. i've enjoyed all of your videos. are you planning on doing more Linux based episodes?

  • @Doyleman777 definitely planning on it.

  • @TWILTalks I see you opted in for the new YouTube channel layout. I personally hate it because it lacks customizability. Any idea if I will always have the option of the custom style or will the new look be forced on us? BTW you may not recognize my I.D. I was robertzaccour before.

  • @OnlineAssKicker I think the new look is going to be forced eventually. I don't believe I actually opted in on this channel, and it notified me about it.

Yeah, I recognized the new name. :)

  • I have used ESXi, XENServer, and now Hyper-V for my home environment. I have used ESX at a school district, as well as where I work now - it works great. I think Hyper-V works very well also - the price of ESX is very expensive. You should be fine with Hyper-V.

  • @PCAddictsLive Thanks for the info! ESX would be preferable, but like you said, the cost is prohibitive. I'm definitely going to give XenServer a look, but it's not approved for use here, so I'll almost certainly be using Hyper-V. Should be interesting, one way or another.

  • @TWILTalks Cool man, hopefully you can keep us updated on the whole Hyper-V / Virtualization stuff you have going on. Looking forward to more videos!

  • A red hat fedora? What version of the kernel is your hat running?

  • @Chintendoeddman 4.0. It's just that advanced. :)

  • Chuck Norris approves that hat.

  • That's a damn awesome hat.

  • i hope you get the house ;) btw you look like notch with your head xD

  • @martenLij not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not... :P

  • What Linux news shows on youtube do you recommend?

  • @origamiartist2 The Linux Action Show :)

  • @origamiartist2 I agree with foxyd3. It's a bit long, but they pack a ton of great info into it. Linux4UnMe does a semi-regular newscast as well.

  • If you install Magic Lantern on your T2i you can make it beep when you start and stop recording.

  • @thetechzonelive I've got ML on my T2i. The "Beep" option wasn't as obvious as I would like. Found it last night though. Wonder if I can make it louder... :)

  • cool fedora, i have always wanted a bowler hat. they should call a linux distro after that lol

  • @Dreadfultime Right after I bought this one, I noticed Penney's has a bowler on their website for $40. A bit much, but with a coupon it might be more affordable. Very tempting. :P

  • I like that hat a lot actually. Generally I'm not one for wide brimmed fedoras but it looks pretty good on you. Also, good luck on the house! I just recently got a situation like that and was able to snatch the house we were looking at for a long time up and a steal of a price.

  • @TheiBurley Yeah, I've looked at a bunch of smaller fedoras over the last few years, and they just always look silly on me. This one in particular (the only one the store even had) looked halfway decent, and the price was exactly right.

  • Have you considered using Citrix XenServer. I am heavily involved with Server virtualization and from the sound of it XenServer would be a great option. XenServer has a free version that does everything that hyper-v does. It also is Linux based ;)

  • @carlosthegreatcom I'll be checking out XenServer now. Features look very nice.

Not sure if work will go for it, because it's not "Enterprise Standard Approved" by the state of KY, but it's definitely worth a shot... Thanks!
