Ive been to alot of gyms in Thailand and Australia. The sounds they make rn't specifically taught, individuals make the sound that works best for them.
These guys are ultimate warriors. 6 miles in the morning + 3 hours training sleep 3 miles + 2 hours more training. And to maintain this pace??? Crazy, no steroids nothing but pure heart. Muay Thai is the best.
"Ow Wei!" Christ, people could argue all day on what this means! My 2 cents is that its similar to a kihai and used when u deliver or receive a big shot. They also do it when they're fucking around in sparring or whatever. Definately a context thing when applied to the latter.
also one of the others is called Khunpinit, they are from the kaewsumrit gym bangkok, this guy is 2 times lumpini champion, anuwat is lumpini and rajadamnern champion and thai fighter of the year 2003-2004
haha OOUUYAAWEI reminds me of a tongan phrase sed xactly the same but in different context, more when a mistake is make sort of like oh shit or oh my gosh
The "ow wei" isn't for breathing, its a type of exclamation in Thai. Don't you guys ever watch any Thai fights? When they hit in Lumpini fights, the crowd yells "OW WEI!!".
Anyway, great training video! I almost wish I was impoverished so I can train all day like these guys. Even the kids were clean! Love the vids. We need more videos like this for some of the other camps in the Bangkok area.
it sounds pretty cool.. and it makes them sound even meaner because it looks like a game to them.. you can tell they're hard fighters just by watching.
@czarImperia yea its alright i mean i see nothing wrong with it the WORST is when GSP's coach faraz is holding the pads for him and he says it, he just totally butchers it.
that is anuwat and they're at the kaewsamrit gym, i'm not sure where though. i think they say it in the documentary at some point, but i'm too lazy to check.
Looks like a young Anuwat from about 3.40 onwards.

scary to think that most of these guys (if not all) have resting heart rates under 40 bpm. yea forget lance armstrong, these are the real athletes.

well i'm training here in the US, and i know about most of the breathing stuff (like the ushhh when kicking and punching)
but i just thought it sounded funny when they were sparring and going "aaayawei!" over and over again :P

@zigcat Something innately tuned into the brain to vocalise movements in this way, and similar ways, in styles spanning all of asia

that's how they breathe out when punching or kicking. It's crucial to boxers and kickboxers
