  • 8th grade is when I decided I wanted to march with a drum corps. I watched one of Phantom's shows, and I was hooked. x) My freshman year I actually got to see a live DCI show, which sorta "fueld the fire" for me more. Now, I'm a sophomore and I'm trying out for Crossmen, and I'm hoping I make it in 'cause honestly, trying out for a corps is of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. I've already met so many awesome people doing something that I love. (:

  • I'm only a 9th grader but this video inspired me. I wanna do drum corp soo badly I'm in drumline and I love every minute of it.

  • a comment not a paragraph long..

  • what i have noticed that on this video that is manly boys and yet in my lo0cal marching band that i am in its manly girls but i think that its becuse that here many boys boys are afrid to be classed a band geek and yet you get an amazing buzzn from doing this

even if you are in a little band like mine.

Go on Stafford lancers we can do it if we want to win . google us and see that we are a small band with big hopes

  • You come back home with a nice tan, and a body more fit than Richard Simmons, thats for sure.

  • 4000 dollars all for an "experience"...

  • @1992photographer you wouldnt understand. obviously. its a lot more than just an "experience" or else no one would do it.

  • @1992photographer You'd have to do it to understand. The roaring applause from the crowds make it all worth while.

  • I still don't get it.

  • Wow thats my highschool in the background. Im a trumpet at Cypress Creek Marching Band:D

  • @MrYael69 it can range from 2,000-4,000 give or take. You have to pay for camps, transportation fees to and from camps, audition fees, tour fees, spring training fees, and the money that you spend to pay for luggage/other rehearsal things that you need daily.

  • @bloo91tinson do you make any money doin this? the "30000 people" watching pay admission dont they? where does that money go?

  • @xhippeex You do not make any money for marching drum corps. Yes the people watching and going to these events pay money to watch. It all goes to the venue stadiums and the corps... not the members. The only people who get paid are the staff which this is there summer job to teach DCI. But to tell you the truth the life experiences and friendships you make as well as the connections which you make through marching in this activity is worth every penny... ask most any marching member/staff.

  • how much is corps?

  • It takes a marcher to understand another marcher. It takes an individual that has performed in marching arts to understand marching arts.

  • Holy crap, I cannot freaking wait to march (hopefully) my rookie year summer of '11

  • Marching is the greatest thing I've ever done.

  • This video is soo true. I used to think of summer as something that happened between school years. Now I think of school years as something between DCI! I'm in my 4th year and would not trade one minute for anything. I've met friends I'll have forever, I've been able to visit places I never thought I'd get to. I got to go to the presidential inaguration! And everywhere. It's not for everyone, most friends think I'm crazy, but they spend their summers doing nothing. I'm living, learning, loving

  • the real question.....

    why not do it

  • fail spelling Bribeedrummer

  • I love marching DRUMCORP :)

  • its drum corps btw

  • My god, what stadium was that crowd shot in the beginning at? I assume it was finals, but where exactly?

  • I believe that was the "mile high stadium." The Denver Broncos stadium. :]

  • I think that was Gillette stadium.. maybe

  • Comment removed

  • i think when this video was made he was the director of the cavaliers

  • Comment removed

  • hmmmm....who knows

  • It doesnt matter :)

Vanguard is still the best in my heart

  • @Excapted yea he was the cavies director for the early 2000s to like 06 i think

  • Uhm okay... For me, Jeffy is a part of SCV, not from Cavies, or some others

  • @Excapted i know what you mean, im good friends with Jeff, im marching this next summer with SCV, last year i was with SCVC

  • Respect Guy!

Its my greatest wish, to march SCV one day! Even if it is the last thing I do, but SCV is more than a Corps.

Im sure you know what i try to say :)

  • i know exactly what you're trying to say the Vanguard organization is more than just any other corps theres something different about it that cant be explained

  • For someone its a "call" to march Vanguard... Im sure you know that sentence: You choosent Vanguard, Vanguard choose as you ;-)

    And that is SOOOOO true!

I would give EVERYTHING to march Vanguard

  • @Excapted : Everyone feels that way about their corps

  • omg knowing dat i cant march nxt summer is heart breaking!!!! how will i survive w/o drum corps??? spinning is wat i do best lol

  • I really want to march in drum corps. I'm originally a woodwind player though. Bass clarinet and bari sax . but luckily I'm learning how to play tuba,so maybe there's a chance for me to be in drum corp.lol

  • There is definitely a chance for you! A couple of the members in our hornline this year had never played a brass instrument before, and then went on to get one of the highest scores in Open Class.

  • @chibiguy93 dude if u still interested pioneer may take u, im march with them this past season ans trust is all bs of people saying that we don't hard enough, we rehearse 12-14 hours so, if u r interested please tell me, if u don't oh well good luck in your journey to drum corp

  • @chibiguy93 a lot of times woodwind players go into guard, don't know why but that seems to be the pattern.

I play flute and clarinet and am in the guard and I soooo love it, would not give it up for anything, would rather give up my flute than my flag!

  • @chibiguy93 yeah i'm starting on Marching Euphonium.... i'll be auditioning for Phantom next year...

  • what corp is that where its raining? makes me shiver :)

  • Glassmen

  • if your talking about the corp at like a 1:26

i believe it was the academy

  • my bad i think it was the glassmen

  • It was definitly Glassmen

  • Was this filmed in Florida? So many of those fields looked super familiar!

  • yoooo Cypress Creek HS in Orlando at 0:29. lol

  • i want to march a corps! i don't care which, i just wan't the experience.

  • 1:00

Thats my Pit instructor at my high school

  • good thing there's 3 guys there

  • Great video! I march bass drum with a senior corps, and this video explains everything. My corps has become like my second family, and I love marching so much. I started out doing marching band for four years in high school, took three years off after I graduated, and now I'm doing DCA. I love it so much!

  • 2:42 Raining at a performance?

    That's horrible.

  • i was in a corps in orlando on saturday and it rained hardddd

  • That sucks!

I'm gonna be in Atlanta tomorrow.

    I should check the weather.....

    Oh wait.

    Georgia Dome's inside.

    CHA-CHING!

  • Im in a Drum Corps in the UK its just the same as dci once its in your blood it stays there as i sure know have been doing it from the age of 10 now 28 had four years out to concentrate on family went back 2 months ago thaught i wouldn't be able to play againg but i did took it like duck to water wish i nerver left now the age limit for DCUK is now unlimtied over 25 still get nervous at the back of the feild

  • I want to march Phantom Regiment or Carolina Crown so badly, but what are the chances? :(

  • even if you go to the audition....that is a greater chance of you actually making it! and even if you don't make it, you always learn something new at an audition....

my friend actually made phantom for this upcoming 2009 season....she said that she went in not expecting to make it...and she made the hornline....so you never know until you try :)

  • Thanks a lot. I've made up my mind. Ya'll watch out for me at Crown auditions :)

  • what are you trying out for?

im thinking about going out there for next season also....

  • Euph or Bari. I don't think they take as many as Phantom, so it'll be hard. But I'm still going to give it a shot. You?

  • thats so totally awesome. have you ever marched before?

im going for bass drum :)

  • A few camps. Never had enough money to go on tour, though. I don't think this year will be a problem :)

  • i cant wait, im auditioning for crown next year =)

  • ima go to USC cud i go to the Blue devils?? TUBA!!!

  • you could go anywhere, man. just gotta have the money and especially the talent. and don't forget hard work. since they are decently close, that's a nice choice though.

  • thanks i guess u cud say its a dream ima freshman in high school so i guess i have time to practice

  • I marched 5 years with the Sacramento Freelancers and although we had a small tour fee it can be done. Since all drum corps are non-profits. Everything is tax deductible. For you if you are over 18 or your parents. or anyone who donates to help you march. I know lots of people who asked there dentist, doctor, neighbor, family etc.. Just to donate a $100 or $200. Before you know it you have your whole tour.

t will honestly be the best thing you will ever do with you life. Don't miss out!

  • This might just push me over the edge to do it.

I already missed the Auditions last year for Glassmen, but a few of my friends said they need people to play Contra......soo I just might have to take that up...

  • do it!!

  • i would love to be in drum corps, but money's a big issue D':

  • lol welcome to the club

  • I envy all of you. I'm a drum corps fan and 24. I get sad alot of times when I watch these videos because I know that I can't do this. #1 I don't have the money and #2 I'm too old #3 I never sufficiently learned baritone in high school enough to be ANYWHERE near competitive (I'm originally an alto sax player). What I wouldn't give to be empowered with the ability to become a member of a DCI corps... *sigh*

  • AMEN!!!

  • I wantta play timps for vanguard.

  • i def plan on marching this year, hope i make the line

  • the word "passion" doesn't even begin to describe my feeling for this activity. my friends look at me like im crazy when they find out what i do. but i dont care. i live to march. it is what i do. it defines me and runs my life. if i have to quit a job or skip school to march. so be it. ill only fall out if a leg or arm is completely detatched from my body. i earned a spot in SCV this year and i couldn't be happier. I cant wait for tour and the work...i love Drum Corps

  • That is my exact feeling. I'm 16 and this will be my third season being on a drum corps drumline. I'm so glad i have 5 years left after this summer. I really wanna make Phantom :)

  • I was meaning to reply to bradporky16

  • i have a question where do you march and how are doing corps already, i want to start corps to but i didn't think i could this early i thought i had to wait til i was like 18

  • I did Spokane Thunder the past two summers and this summer I am planning on doing Seattle Cascades. The reason why some world class corps prefer that you be 18 is because they start all days in may or so...so a lot of younger people would still be in school. However, I know a girl who did blue knights and she ended up taking all of her finals early for drum corps

  • wow ok, thanks very much for telling me

  • i live 30 minuets away from them i got a call back last year but didnt make it you should deffinatly try out. what do you play?

  • i wanna make it on the bluecoats for the 2010 season when i'm done with high school

  • im in drum line we practice year round rain shine tusdays and thursdays from 5-8 then purcussion week from 5-9 then we go to band camp from 7 am till 9 pm

  • they go 9am-9pm (sometimes later) for 3 months straight... think they win...

  • Well sucks for you!

  • your stupid as fuck

but whatever your misssinn out mann

  • man dude you are missing out... everyone here seems to know what's up besides you

  • uhhmm....it kind of explains it in the video.... :-/

  • @WAKeele I will never understand why you commented on this video, if you hate it.

  • @WAKeele if you don't like DCI, then why the hell are you watching a video on youtube about it?

  • @mthsbandrocks Good question. It was over two years ago, so it's hard to say. Probably one of my musician friends probably sent it to me to watch as a joke or maybe because we know someone in the video.

Either way, it's good to expose yourself to things you don't like.

  • so when do they practice (like may or april)? and how many weeks, our band does 2 weeks of 8-5s and 2 weeks of 1-9s

  • All the corps usually meet once a month from Nov. to May. Then Moveins start in May. We have about 4-5 weeks of everyday rehearsal from about 8:00AM to about 11:00PM with three 1 hour meals. Then tour starts. We rehearse everyday until the Show that night and then ride the bus at night tho the next town. When we say it is mental, we aren't kidding... its rough. But it is worth it. Then once finals are over in Aug. you go home. Then start again in Nov.lol

  • The one thing i love abt this type of activities.... is the running!!! LOL i feel sooo free like i'm running on air!! And note that i play the tuba. But DCI is very good way to dicipline yourself phisically and mentally.

  • Ive Marched Glassmen and then went to Cavaies, Took me 2 days of straight running to earn the directors trust since i was a former Glassmen. All and All it was a sick expericne

  • dude that sucks...thats my least favorite part of dci...the running )= but its worth it (=

  • I want to do drum core sooooo bad, but im brand new to all this. I'm doing guard for the first time this year. I'd KILL to make it someday. I'm outside practicing hours everyday... Damnnn I want to make it.

    Any advice? Anyone?

I'm going to be a junior in high school, so I might still have time?

  • axname, (a) you have time, (b) do it, and (c) do it. Find a corps nearby and try out, even if you don't think you're ready. You'll find out what you need to do and who can help. Finding a winterguard group near you might also help.

  • My two favorites are Madison Scouts and Cavaliers, without a doubt.

My directors are pushing me to do Cavies.

  • without a doubt do cavies...

  • Try out for Cavaliers; you'll like us! ;)

  • chyea...cavies

  • what is this? Do revo!

  • cavies...lol

  • @axnamexinxlights or if you're not too sure of yourself try a cadet corps. Or try for the WC and if you don't get it, then do OC that way you can get the experience and be better prepared for WC

  • @axnamexinxlights def have time. Although getting to this two years late lol, hopefuly you've already made it. And if not keep trying and do like I said earlier try and OC and get your experience. I started in the Colt Cadets in 8th grade, soon I hope to make it to Colt's they're my family :)

  • nice video, do you know the songs that were played?

  • I just teared up a bit watching this... I'm missing my age-out right now. :-( Even though I'm happy to be teaching here at home, I apart of my wishes I was there.

  • 2:22, fireworks in the sky behind the mallet player lol

  • i know someone who marched with Memphis Sound and even though it sucked he was gone all summer it was great to know he was out doing something u can do everyday after football season and football field shows dont even come close to this if i ever got the chance i would be in DCI its amazing!

  • i think that you should do drum corps if you want to.

even if you play woodwind...pick up brass!!!

  • I've marched with 8 saxophone player, they all march baritone/euphonium. The embochure for the brass mouth piece is similar to the saxe, or at least the conversion isnt too bad. if you want to you can do it, but you gotta want to.

  • oh man its all hits home.

March if you have the chance, if you can fill a hole, even if all you can do is help with the cook crew, DO IT.

    You wont regret it.

getting 134 (now 149) brother and sister is an experience.

its unforgettable, look up some of the ol skool vids and see responces from folks who march 30+ yr ago.

Seein those guys doing fundy's in a hotel lot, that was SDUB for finals week '07

  • right on! I listened to what those guys had to say and it's all truth.

    I'm ready for the summer!!!

  • that helps a lot

  • this is an awesome vid.

  • it is so true

  • I choked up after watching this.

    Because it's all so true...

    Yay drum corps.

  • GO COLOR GUARD

  • dude, it actually makes DCI look cool!

  • OMG...It really is Cool. You just have to experience it to understand. IF you get a chance, just go to one show. You'll get the energy from it all from that alone.

  • YEAH!

  • They speak nothing but the truth. if your want to march , DO IT! you wont regret it.
