My late sister-in-law sang this song (accompanying herself on a guitar) to my brother when he was assigned to overseas duty WWII. It still strikes a chord in my heart.....especially when sung so marvelously well by Pavarotti. No, maestro, we will never forget YOU!!! - MusicalDel
I wonder if Pavarotti was bothered by the flute interlude-- was not correctly tuned-it was sharp. I have read that Pavarotti had absolute pitch, and I always look to see if he is bothered when the flute begins the interlude. It's not evident that he is annoyed or uncomfortable by it.
@theburb08 "Absolute pitch" is very misleading. The human ear does not perceive a pitch change until after about 4.3 cents in frequency. Pavarotti sharpened or flattened pitches as part of his interpretive intent. The loudness and pressure of any particular note, the octave he was singing in, etc. also determined noticeable pitch variances. In other words, Pavarotti was no more bothered by the flutist's pitch than the flutist was bothered by Pavarotti's. P.S. I have so-called "perfect pitch."
I beg to differ , All have to agree on what 'A' is--whether 440, 442, 443, 439, etc--but there has to be agreement on that between orchestra, singer, solo instrumentalist,, FROM that, interpretative variance can take place. What I was saying in my prior comment was that the flutist's "A" was not the same as the orchestra's "A", in his solo interlude.
I also have absolute pitch, documented by a USCSF research project, as A1 absolute pitch.
Io t'amo sempre piu, nel sogno mio rimani tu. Non ti scordar di me: la vita mia legata e a te. C'e sempre un nido nel mio cor per te. Non ti scordar di me!
So, you must be part of a hispanic mob or something. That you prefer Mingo (where is the Do) does not mean that he sings this better, are you insane or smoking something?
In listening to Domingo sing this, I noticed the last syllable at the end ("me") to be handled differntly by each. The vowel 'm' is placed on the final tone by Pavarotti. Domingo places it at the end of the next to the last note frrom then end (at the end of the "di" . A matter of preference and taste. I prefer the "m" on the final tone. Any comments?
Luciano places the accent on the correct vowel. Don't forget, he was an Italian (like me) and yes, this is his native tongue.

Yo sólo he dicho mi punto de vista SIN INSULTAR NI FALTAR EL RESPETO A NADIE

When one says Pavarotti he has to think of someone so well endowed with his voice and the the desire and dedication to develop this gift that renders perfection or we can even say divine, leaving us in owe and full of admiration and appreciation by his mere presence. He might be gone but his artistry will endure the ever growing mountain of time that tries to obscure it.
