We don't use SUV term here in Finland. Straight translation would be..something like.."a city crossover"...*katumaasturi* in finnish. And correct me if im wrong...but that jeep is still a CAR, even though it is an SUV (CAR = a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers ). (SUV = marketing term for a vehicle similar to a station wagon, but built on a light-truck chassis).
We have an 1989 wrangler Laredo 4.0L can somebody tell me please if it is a good off roarer I think it's good bat I would like if somebody tell me if I'm right
I was told that the Jeep Wrangler (rubicon edition) is unable to complete the Rubicon Trail without modification. Anyone know if this is true? if it can, could you please show a source?
@mout12 Well I read the reviews about them when they FIRST came out and I forgot which, but one of the big off road magazines did a test taking it through the rubicon bone stock... And if I remember correctly, it made it bud had some rash on the sides or fenders.. Don't remember which.. They said it made it, but not unscathed..
colormestupid, I think you truly are stupid. What does anything you said in your comment have to do with anything? It's not about the rig truly, it's about the driver and what he can do with the rig he has. Keep wheeling a toyota cuz you will never know how to crawl anything else anyway!
What's impossible, putting 35s on with a 2.5 Lift? You most definitely can do that on the 07 to currents. I drive it everyday like that, not a problem

ok I hate jeeps but the new jk unlimited rubicons are badass they finally got the needed wheel base that yj's needed. I personally run an 85 toyota 4runner with 35s stock solid axles except gears and lockers and dual cases my yota is far from stock. I have pulled a lot of yj's out with a 4banger its not how many horses you have under the hood its all about torque in 4low too much speed or hammering down too much on the skinny breaks things and leaves you walking its turtle speeds crawling people
It helps when you deflate all the tires to 10lbs of pressure for rock crawling. I would almost label this trail as, "two trackin." Wheres the mud? The Rubicon needs a 4" lift & more power under the hood, 205 HP is a bit weak. I hope Chrysler beefs up the engine with the next model change. My 2004 Liberty could handle this trail, no problem.
Another pretender amongst us. Tire pressure is dependant on many factors, tire size, vehicle weight, and terrain being just a few, but you knew that, right? The "mud" is there in the spring, other wise its rock and more rocks. It is not simply a "two track". How do you think it earned it's reputation as the World's Most Famous Trail?
Slight correction: If you beef up this Jeep, it would certainly be capable. I just wouldn't want to try the "bigger stuff", stock. Need bigger tires and all the necessary guards etc.
Looks like a great Jeep, but this video was of them doing the "small stuff". Look at some of the other Rubicon trail challenges. This Jeep wouldn't last 2 minutes.
If these guys did the trail then they handled it all. Except for the Lil Sluice there arn't too many bypasses. Of coarse you know that, being the seasoned "wheeler" that you are, right? lol
Personally I would argue that no brand new car is a good first car.
Only with experiencing your first car will you figure out what you really need in a car, and what's actually important to you (as opposed to what you THINK is important before you get the car).
If you're wrong on what you need, you don't want to be stuck with a brand new car that is practically useless!
JK is the designation for the model year of the Wrangler. JK is from 2007 to present. Rubicon is a hardcore offroad trim of the JK. There are also Sahara and X trims of the JK
For offroad capabilities ONLY the jeep. It has the biggest aftermarket and getting the real one (2 door) the wheel base is smaller and much better. For road comfort its not the best but offroad its size and wheel base alone make it the best.
I'm going to respectfully disagree. I enjoy my 4dr ruby bc of it's capabilities off road...which equal that of most 2drs bc of my driving experience and also i like the comfort and room of having the backseat with doors. really a sweet set up in my opinion.
I don't know anything about 4wd-ing and i know the wrangler is built for that stuff, but surely on some of those really really big rocks and ledges, would cause some wheel alignment problems or damage the axle or something??
The steering rods are spanned across the front axles and out of the way of rocks. Rocks have to hit the axles safe before bending or damaging them. The Axles themselves are very resilient and can take punishment. Most people who are wheeling aren't driving 50-80 over big rocks so what you mentioned isn't an issue.
While I'll never question a stock wrangler's capability, I will question the owners desire to throw that kind of scrill down on a new rig only do drive bumper first into a boulder he doesn't have the clearance for.
Jeep unlimited's all the way but i still love my H1 on the side the only decent hummer ever made in my opinion. however favorite vehicle still has to be the '89 TJ.

Wrong, Jr. You just let everybody know that you have never rock-crawled, and probably the closest you've gotten to four-wheeling is with an RC car... I've been wheeling for decades, have a built 04 Unlimited, and would go just as slow. Lesson #1 for ya, scooter (so you don't look foolish in the future): You stay OFF the skinny pedal doing this, so you don't come crashing down and bust stuff. You'll be that guy that busts on the trail and makes everyone wait cuz you had to show off.
While I hear what you are saying, you have to start somewhere. It's nice to start with a solid platform. Not sure about the one in the vid for my own tastes.
My own Jeep is pretty meager. Mostly stock '98 TJ... my D35 carrier folded on my last wheeling trip and I now have a Super35 back there. That is as "built" as mine is so far. Not even a decent suspension. Only spacers. I need more money. :-)
