  • Turns out the mistake I did was because the text frame, I should drag a text frame because I just click T instead of dragging it into a frame. Same steps as was before and it work. I didn't know if dragging it or not can be a problem

  • Hi Gavin, Im using Illustrator Cs5 and I have tried to make text wrap but it doesn't respon as it should. The steps I am doing was like :

    1. Place an object in front of the text box

    2. Select object - text wrap - make

    3. It's on a same layer already last time I checked

    4. I click just the object not both

Any suggestion that I might have done wrong ? Would be highly appreciated :)

  • @purplepenyu . You cant text wrap without selecting both .

Need to select both Object and text for it to work

  • Why mine doesn't work??

  • @KatiushaVN4 Read the comments or post the steps U've done . Im sure someone will come with the solution

  • @gavinmendes

I have some texts and then I place an image in and hove over the texts. And then I select both texts and image and go to Object to Textwrap and Make. But they don't respond at all

  • @KatiushaVN4 Make sure the text and and image are on the same layer ( thats the most common mistake) .

Also at times when the image is pasted inside the Text Field - it may appear that both are selected . Use CTRL+A to make sure section is applied on both.

If it still does'nt work after trying all the steps - Do the following select the image only > Right Click > Arrange > Bring Forward

  • Hi again Gavin,

sorry for bombarding your video but i found that if i type text without creating a text-box beforehand, (if you type from just the clicking the text tool and then on your artboard and entering text straight from the cursor), text will will NOT work.

you need to create a text box before hand, enter the text and only then will text wrap work.

    try it out...

BTW im using CS1. this is a stupid bug

  • @guumballl

Thanks for the info .But its been a really long time since I used CS1 - as im currently on CS3 . ( And i thought I was outdated :-) . Seriously though move on to - at least CS3 as there's a huge difference in the software , and its more interesting as well with the 3D effects, etc.

  • @guumballl You are a life saver guumballl!!! I have been working for days on a final project in design class and could not get text wrap to work all the time. I didn't know what was different when it wouldn't work. I found out you have to have the object above the text in the layers but that still didn't solve the problem. When I read your post about the text box and tried it, it worked!! Thank you so much for solving this issue for me.

  • Gavin,

Does the text box have to be different somewhat.? i have a special text box that works with text wrap but i tried it with the new text box and that doesn't work.

  • i dont know why but text wrap on my CS1 dont work consistently either. i managed to do it once and exchange the text/pic every time i want to do it again with another job.

its fustrating to figure out what is the missing element to make it work.

    i did the following:

    1: type the words

2: place the image on top

    3: click both

    4: click>object>text wrap> ok

which doesnt work! im thinking might be some bug.

  • thanks ..it helped..

  • I have seen this done by many but it does nto work for me. nothing happens? why? it does nothing. i mean NOTHING!!!!!

  • @KatBanditSmokey : Send me the AI file - I will have a look at it .

    my email is gavinmendes@gmail.com

Before that have a look at the other comments - you might find ur answer there .

  • @gavinmendes i have deleted the file i will have to get help tomorrow when i go to school. it was something i been messing with all day and i am tired. i will start over later thanks anyway

  • When I try to hit the text wrap it does not work. I select the object and the text then hit text wrap. I guess I am doing something wrong.

  • Im guessing that both object and image have not been selected simultaniously .

    Here are some suggestions :

    1) select text -> Hold down Shift -> And then Select the object .

    or

    2) Do Select All ( Ctrl + A ) to make sure both object and text are selected .

And then do a wrap text .

note : U have to hit "MAKE" in the wrap text menu .

  • You may also want to make sure you don't have them on separate layers or else it won't text wrap them for you. Have the image and the text in one single layer.
