I think arguing about fighters in their prime is a tad pointless..we will never know if Mike Tyson would beat Ali/Clay, etc etc. For various reasons Bas Rutten JUST missed out on being super famous in North America...He has made public career sacrifices several times for his family and to build his acting career...Both of these guys are/were amazing! Both have had injuries, I think. and come from a school of martial arts that is different from the athletic style of today.

The way I see it, if Guy Mezger almost knocked out Wanderlei Silva with those nice kicks, Bas Rutten could have easily steamrolled Wanderlei with his kicks.

silva is known for his great muay thai knockout power but i think the thing is he was way too aggressive in his fights and like you said his reach isnt exactly large like shoguns or liddells and he does always swing for the fences. plus bas has always fought at HW and silva did ok at HW. but i wish i couldve seen more of bas and it sucks that after he won the ufc HW title he had to retire due to injurys
