The woods all around Ft. Story had sand instead of dirt which was a unique feature of the surrounding landscape.....I biked in and around the lighthouse countless times on my way to the beach or the movie theater....toads would cross the roads in multitudes in the mornings....blue-tailed lizards, cotton mouth moccasins, black racers, turtles...an abundance of creatures were present everywhere it seemed.....above all the friends I hung out with will remain with me forever... Ft. Story 1963-64.
don't tell anyone I told you, but if you go up the hill behind the bathhouse in the camping cabin section theres old abandoned military emplacements up there

I grew up as a kid on this base and loved everything about it. I really do miss fort story and have been trying to make it back for years and years.
