I don't care if it's unpopular, I love Perry more than Porl. Yes, Porl was there for my favorite albums but I like Perry's style much more. New Porl is a wandering mess and I wholly agree--he overplayed anything he did and that only worked well for a few tracks.
i know it's unpopular to say, but i'm kind of glad that Porl doesn't play with them anymore. i have a feeling that he spoiled everything with his "too much" guitar playing style. you know what I mean...and bringing back keyboards is the best decision Roberd could ever make :)
What an amazing song that just takes your spirit hostage for 6 minutes... Anotehr song that closely matches this (but not quite) is Fever Ray's Coconut (2006). Youtube it.
Why the heck I can go 3 or 6month without listening to The Cure and as soon as I hear their music I fall in love with the sounds all over like when I was 14 years old again? wow! AMAZING
ROGER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fair Play to Laurence.....Simon I could watch your hands playing your bass forever....e14 all cats are gray, very caohtic LORD....Im running around E1 and E14 and Stockewell with the ONE BLOOD book in my hands and the Amnesty International Irish cotton bag under my arm..Ta Jason . Best The Cure albums....The one to come
@ApocalypseForFree that's pretty harsh. Botox? Robert Smith? No way. It simply looks like he's lost a few lbs, which we all need to do from time to time...
absolute agree, it´s always happen with The Cure, makes their old songs sounds better and better, have you ever heard drowning man during a festival in 2003? an absolute beauty
It is incredible to me that even when The Cure is dusting off old records live, it doesn’t sound old or outdated, in fact it sounds fresh and very, well, alternative, for a lack of a better word. Even when the likes of Bono and Michael Stipe have been watered down and filtered up by mainstream success, Robert Smith comes through like the punk sister that never grows old to spark up your dormant inner radical.
Simon was surprised with these great new arrangements that give you a touch more profound and elegant to the song, without a doubt a brilliant musical arrangement, that far from distorting the original magnifies even more.
One of the bets versions I ever heard of this song, a master piece no doubt, with Lol playing strings, original member of The Cure since 1979, who finally after many misunderstanding with Smith, get back to delight the audience with the last original chord of this song, …”a single note rings on and on and on”.
Personally I think the octaves are better. Maybe not on this recording, but live it was far superior.
Simon had duel cabinets, one channel going either side of the theatre, and must've had some pan thing going on, because it seriously sounded nice and "surrounded" with the lows and the highs almost separate. couldn't care less if the notes were higher, sounded brilliant.
Him and roberts sound was phenomenal in person this time. A breathe of fresh air since the last few years of schecters.
Didn't know they played it in the mid noughties. I saw them play it a couple of times on the dream tour. Which concerts from the mid noughties are you referring to?
So my taste is factually wrong. Opinions about what is "best" in music falls into the subjective category. Maybe I should have used the word favourite. Or am I factually wrong because Lol couldn't deal with the drums in LGTB? Or because I think his drumming was good in splintered and hanging garden in the concerts I have from the 14 explicit moments tour? I have the tapes and it sounds good to my ears. Andy and Boris were better drummers but Lol drummed on 3 great albums.
seeing this kinda makes me realize that i've been really missing the keyboards these last few years. The 4Tour was amazing, don't get me wrong, but they sound even better in the footage from Australia that's come out so far.
In my humble opinion the 3 best albums are 17 seconds, faith, and pornography, all of which Laurence played drums on. Its just a matter of opinion. Perhaps your favourites are kiss me, desintegration, and wish, and there is nothing wrong with that. All the albums are great. Laurence often doesn't get the credit he deserves as a drummer just because he famously had difficulty with the 1983 pop songs but listen to him playing splintered or hanging garden on 1982 tour.
@rothgarmcwilliam Totally agreed with you. And remember that he also wrote the lyrics for "All cats are grey". Lol is part of the origin of The Cure ´s sound, without any kind of doubt. He will be always have my admiration and my respect.
I have listened to the audios of both nights and Lol hit the same key. So that leads me to think that is not an error but a new 'arrangement' for the song :)
festival was shit without the keyboard , i know ..i went . so glad it's back ! thanks roby .
