There is a difference between the catholic church and the ROMAN catholic church .. The catholic church the apostle creed talks about is the UNIVERSAL church of God which is not held in buildings cuz anywhere there is a building it is earthly so earthly is not universal... People don't know the difference .. Man was never the head of christ church but the devil was a deceiver from the beginning and it is written.. only they that are written in the book of life will hear and know the truth ...

Is it possible that "Hell" is actually more of a "Purgatory" wherein some souls must experience a period of punishment and/or purification before being reconciled to God? Could Jesus' atonement have effected a universal reconciliation for all of mankind and not just some? I see this as compatible with a more enlightened view of a truly just and compassionate God. In this view, God deals justly and finally with sin while demonstrating perfect mercy and compassion for those made in His image.

@Pacisdiligo Purgatory is a part of Hell, for wherever there is pain and suffering, there is Hell. Look at it this way, bad people go to Jail. In Jail there are different cell blocks. High Security Blocks for hardened Criminals who serve a Life sentence, and Low Security Blocks for petty Criminals who only stay inside for a period of Time. Hell and Purgatory are similar to this.

If I may add to all our protestant brethren. I have family who have gone to protestants churches, and they have been supported and helped, not spiritually at all. Satan is the accuser and they come judging/accusing the Catholic church and calling us sinners, demons, and many horrible things (Mat 7). But I can say this as a fact, spiritually they have not received much, but financially they have. I see it's a good paid business to become a protestant if you want to retire and go to hell later.

Hell is real. I was there almost. Near death experience Feb 23 2010. I was atheist. Hated Christians. Hated all religion. Then I died. Drug overdose. Heart stopped. I saw hell and asked God for second chance. The paramedics shocked me back.  I'm now 100% Christian. Love God!

According to most Bible translations "Hell" is not eternal torment; it is a temporary state of purification!

However, these Bible transaltions- the NIV, NKJV, KJV, New American- and a few others are FILLED with mistranslations of an "eternal Hell."

Jesus is the savior of the WHOLE world!

@aaa333ify Hello there! Well 1 Timothy may say Jesus is the savior of "all" men, which is true, He did die for all. But haven't wondered what "especially" means? "Especially" pretty much limited the previous words of the verse. Jesus did save everyone in the sense that He provided salvation. But those who believed accepted it (see Mark 16:16). And plus if literally "everyone" is saved. Why does the Bible say "there a sin that can not be forgiven" in Matthew 12:22-32?

The most appalling doctrine that could ever possibly exist is the Catholic Doctrine called Particular Judgement. It states that anyone destined for Hell will, immediately upon death, find themselves in the fires of Eternal Damnation. It is sick and maddening.

There is no one alive that knows they so desperately needs God`s forgiveness more than I do !

I am a Catholic. I was once training to be a Priest !

But I want to forget about any God that would see It`s children go to the Infinitely Intollerable for want of weakness.

The prospect of hell should not sicken you. That's like saying "The prospect of imprisonment for murder sickens me, so I no longer believe in the United States Government".

You simply stop loving God because of punishment? Also, it is extremely easy to avoid Hell. I can help you do it.

I remember one fella saying that an Eternity in Hell will not pay for one single Mortal Sin ! Not one ! It is not sufficient to be eternally Damned to make reparation to God for a single Mortal Sin. I am not accusing you. All I`d say is, look out. Because you need Christ as desperately as I do.

@valarmanwe well, I think you should try REALLY HARD TO GET TO HELL....I mean God gave us His only begotten Son to BUY US BACK WITH HIS BLOOD, then He knew we would still fall in sin CONSTANTLY, so He gave us Confession....You go to Hell if you DON'T WANT GOD....if you want Him and try, there is no way on Earth you're going there!!! @prayyforyourlife, Jesus says the way to hell is broad and many find it and that the way to heaven is narrow and few find it. But "few" here does not mean that less than half of mankind will be saved. For God speaks as our Father, not our statistician. Even one child lost is too many, and the rest saved are too few. The good shepherd who left his ninety-nine sheep safe at home to rescue his one lost sheep found even 99 percent salvation too "few".

Hell is not depressing in itself. It is a reminder though for us to stay in the grace of God. But God is merciful and allows us to repent of our sins once we have lost the grace of God, not once but a zillion times we will forgive us - if we repent sincerely. We can't take it for granted though because we don't know the hour of our death.
