Sad to hear that David passed away today. One of Britians greatest ever commentators ,especially with Superstars and the BBC Skiing,as well as the Snooker.Gone ,but never forgotton.
For many of us, David Vine and Ron Pickering helped make Superstars what it was. Vine's commentary and insight together with his knowledge of all things do do with Superstars is nothing short of legendary (Brian Jacks mentions it on the Superstars DVD) and that's what made him stand out.
That and the snooker, for definite. It's a sad, sad loss.
He finished 7th in the basketball event, but due to Superstars having to fit everything inside an hour, not all competitors' attempts in all events were actually shown.
Anyone remember what happened when Brian Jacks entered the 'dips' competition? He not only beat everyone (including the gymnasts) but set a new world record, too! He was unbelievable in his day!
Would be good to see superstars of today competing, but sports people today are so far up their own arses they would demand a massive fee. The BBC couldn't afford it
I used to LOVE Superstars. Great innocent sports programme with stars from different sports all vying in a number of different disciplines to be best.
John Sherwood was my P.E. Teacher. Absolutely great athlete. Always running.Total respect to this guy. Happy retirement JS, God bless.

I couldn't agree more with that sentiment.

Ponty30 you might be interested to know that the BBC has had a few series of modern superstars 4-5 years ago, and very good it was too.
