From the Five Chimes Consultants website that's linked at the bottom of the Train horns article on Wikipedia:

Factory tuning is B major 6th: (D#,F#,G#,B,D#).

The horn uses the K-series #1, 2, 3a, 4a, and 5 bells.

I think it was filmed here in the Commonwealth due to the sign for the creek.

There's nothing like a K5LA echoing off the Pennsylvania mountains!!

However, I'd like to know what kind of horn the Flyers used several seasons ago for their goal horn - it would sound awesome on SEPTA - not that foghorn the Flyers now use.

Great sound, All k5la don't sound alike. All loco don't sound like that. Why? Remind me of Southern's E7&E8 horns.

It's all about the three D's. Dirt, debris and damage. If the bells get clogged with dust, bugs, leaves and such it will alter the pitch sometimes to the point where they don't sound at all. Think pipe organs that are very old and don't get consistent maintenance. Same thing happens there. Debris guards (mesh cones that cover the bell openings) help. While it is unlikely that damage to the bells or manifold will happen, vandals can render them inoperable.

Note, though: the newest "K5LA" horns are actually NOT K5LAs. They're K5LLAs (yes, two Ls) that have the 1L bell in place of the 5. Even if Nathan wasn't producing out of spec bells, it'd still be a discord.

The new GEVOs sport K5HLs, which is a K5H with the 1L bell in place of a 5. The result, even with all bells tuned properly, is a discord; it's even worse with the typical Nathan off-spec bells these days. :(
