  • It did not surprise me that the SM58 sounded the best. The saxophone is very close to the human voice so a mic made for vocal would be the obvious choice.

  • The Shure SM58 is the winner here, much to my surprise. The Rode K2 was good too.

  • The Oktava and Shure make it sound like a clarinet to varying degrees. I love the Neumann and the Rode - they don't filter out the great breathiness of it.

  • You do realize it all sounds the same cause all we here is the studio audio not the sound he's hearing though headphones........

  • @Jazzman5456 hey jazzman if it sound the same to you try using good headphones or monitors' and listen in HD720. it will be more evident to you if you compare the 1st mic(dpa ) to the 4th(441) you will notice the 1st is clear and open sounding and the 4th is darker.

    what I learnt during the making of this video is that the soprano is less reponsive than other saxes to different mics. check the other videos. and -dont worry- the sound you hear is straight from the preamp--not the cam's mic
