Utah always does everything ass backwards. If those 2 downtown malls were built with decent architecture & design they wouldn't have ever had to bulldoze them and build another tacky mall with hideous murals. The 2 malls didn't even have their entrances line up on Main Street. The insides were dated when they opened. Even the Trax they built for the Olympics doesn't even go to the airport. What a joke.

I'm proud to be both Mormon and Jewish.. The Church doesn't use tithe money~i think it's cool they are paying up front, not getting in debt.. the community needs this addition.. it will be great!!

If the first destruction of Downtown SLC was not enough to revitalize Downtown

then LDS Inc will destroy it again! IF only LDS INC can find a way to restore Downtown SLC by Knocking it down & rebuilding it ! Most people cant stand to think of downtown, let alone go there.

You really need to update your Salt Lake City videos. ZCMI Mall and Crossroads plaza, no longer exist due to the DOWNTOWN RISING project. Also, most of the businesses from those two buildings just moved to the newer GATEWAY mall not just closed and disappeared. Downtown SLC is a totally new place today, we have a better light rail system, nicer Main street with well established businesses, finally, the benefit of loosing those old buildings.

Not for long....Main street is getting a multi-million dollar makeover that has been under construction for the past 4 years.....opening up in the fall of next year. Just amazing...Will give Gateway a run for its money.

I grew up in Salt Lake and remember how it was. The city today looks so much more modern. But it became sterile. On the other hand, I live in a dying down on the Colorado plains today. So energy is declining in rural and urban areas.

All those LDS visitors are not necessarily SHOPPERS. As MORmON head quarters Downtown SLC will always be on its way to HELL... where it belongs!

Salt Lake City is the best city I've been to. It has small city politeness but with nice bars and great local spots. Thanks to the malls being torn down the local culture is flourishing on 300 South. Long live local Utah!

I know what killed downtown SLC!!!! It is the LDS Church buying everything up! I live 180 miles from SLC and it is a main destination for shopping getaways for alot of local residents. Alot of which are now going to Ogden or even Casper, Cheyenne, or Denver because they don't like dealing with SLC!

yea salt lake is great, but no matter how much the lds church spends on the city creek, its gonna fail if its not open on sundays, which is likely to happen, but gateway will still dominate unless they get some really high end stores(LV, ect.) btu yea, salt lake is great, its not san diego but thats like comparing apples to oranges

I don't think that it is right that the church is "taking over" downtown salt lake, if they want people to hangout, walk around and have fun maybe they shouldn't have a conservative church owning all the retail land. Salt Lake City does have a pretty boring main street. I think we should be able to reverse time, and make it more like major cities, such as Seattle or Philadelphia. Those cities have a lot of ground-level retail, and seem to be bustling around the clock.
