Thank god for all the difficulty mods for this game. It actually makes it feel kind of fresh again to actually die to these guys and have to reload 5 or 6 times. (Weimar's Tactics makes those Liches just BRUTAL though)

I did it something like this.

Whole party of spellcasters.

Summon a bunch of fire elementals.

Most if not all characters had spell sequencers with magic missiles and/or fireballs.

Send in summons to attack while simultaneously unleashing hell. Firkraag didn't die instantly, by the time the elementals were breathed away I could fire off another wave of spells and then that was that. Worked for pretty much all the dragons as I can recall

Saladrex and another one in Watcher's Keep (fourth and fifth level respectively), then you have Draconis, the enslaved dragon inside Abazigal's Lair, and of course Abazigal himself. What a disappointment, really. It's not really worth becoming a Cavalier for.

@AdvancedFalcon plus being a cavalier gives you bonuses against demons/devils/fell creatures, 100 % immunity to poison and 20 % fire and acid resistance, they are far more superior over any regular paladin, the only disadvantage is that they cant use missile weapons, and what paladin would use a missile weapon when you have carsomyr or the purifier?

@Leetunen There's more, Saladrex in the Watcher's Keep (If you have the throne of Bhaal Expansion, but in that expansions there's also Abazigal and Draconis too, as well as the Green Dragon) there's another Black Dragon in Watchers Keep, in the lower levels at one point, then you have Firkraag, The Shadow Dragon Thax.... you know, and Irenicus's black dragon too, as well as Adalon, if you have mods, you can get more, Pontifex is a good example, just check out my video on him.

Best theme from the Best Game of All Times, undefeated after all these years! Wonder why though... At the time of the game's release, PC Gamer US said "[Baldur's Gate] reigns supreme over every RPG currently available, and sets new standards for those to come". But, even so, they underestimated it... It STILL reigns supreme and no-one has met its standards yet... :( I'm afraid I'll grow old and die without ever seing another masterpiece like this. There is a program that converts the BG music. Google for "acm2wav". The problem is, this particular theme is not a full theme itself (a one large .acm file). It is constructed of smaller .acm parts that get played according to players actions. For example the "epic part" at 3:05 starts when you attack the dragon. If you dont, then the part 0:01 - 0:07 plays indefinitely. I tried to record this theme myself, long time ago but failed since I get rid of Firkaag too fast :)

LOL I remember the first time I fought Kangaxx and didn't know about him I was with my full party and I kept on casting wild animals and skeletons to create a wall of bodies to protect my six characters. In the end I killed him but THEN he became Kangaxx the Demi Lich and I died almost instantly... I also remember fighting that Lich that's hidden in a pub's wall at the Gates side of the city. He kicked my ass so I ran away but he followed me with his pet Cacofiend and everyone in that pub died.

The Dragon Fights havent been the important fights like those against Irenicus or Amelysan or the Children of Bhaal or Demogorgon. Only Demogorgon is similar to the feelings of this dragonfights. But every time you were fighting a dragon (although with the right Strategy it wasnt hard) you had the feeling this is an epic fight. This music underlines this. In this way my favorite fight (except demogorgon) was the one versus Draconis.

@WolfkinNorthclaw I think Dragon Age does quite well at that. I also played SoA/ToB and the first time you face any dragon not knowing there will be a battle is fearsome.

In DA the few dragons you can battle (the Guardian and the Shapeshifter, that is), are quite fierce. Unless your group is high lv or an easy setting. Huge damage, knocking your tiny fighters over all the time and spitting hellfire. Definitely battles to enjoy, too.

I do not know Drakengard, but I, too, think that dragons, as they are depicted everywhere, should be way more powerful, if not undefeatable. Maybe someday there will be such a game, who knows.

@JingLan69 I found the dragon age battles in DA a bit easy even the first time around, I found the dragon battles in Baldur's gate a challenge the first time around :D. That was even with a sorcerer, though ofc the summoning tactic soon beats most fights, then timestop and more advanced spells etc. Both good games but I don't recall thinking DA was challenging.

But in my heart the best video game dragon is still Firkraag he's so arrogant and from what he tells you he knows more than Irenicus himself... He doesn't even care if you attack him or not and he's willing to actually let you go that's just badass! If do a BG movie ( won't happen I know ) I want him in it as the vilain

Btw anyone remember the demi god, if you were an evil party and helped that lich (or whatever it was), it became a demi god, then turned on you Now that was a tough fight too! I won eventually, but you need to take it into the streets to stand a better chance.

Well I'm not sure which lich you mean. But one of the toughest fights ever designed was to fight against the Lich Kangaxx in Shadows of Amn. Again...been so long since I played SoA. I really should sit down with this game again :(

@Mannetasi i agree, but i prefer Planescape: Torment. Its an infinity engine game, just like Baldurs Gate2, but its more centered around talking and the story rather than fighting everything. In this game, nearly all the combat encounters can be avoided completely with conversation ( and your rewarded with more experience for talking out of stuff too). Also, it sports a much better evil character roleplaying experience.

@Mannetasi technically it's a very easy fight if you cast a few saving throw lowering spells such as doom and finally finger of death but I find that way of killing Firkraag an insult to what is supposed to be an epic battle. Ofcourse Firkraag is a cakewalk compared to Kangaxx.
