Those who say they don't want to live 'indefinitely'..let me ask you..at point would you CHOOSE to die if you were living a happy and healthy life? Funny how this day never comes...
@Jort007 I can never understand why anyone wouldn't want humanity to live forever. If our species goes extinct everything is pointless. May as well stop working, stop learning, don't have children, just sit on the beach drinking beer and wait for the end to come.
@aluisious Everything is allready pointless really, people just want to give a meaning to everything. I meant more that humans are a species that doesn't know what's good for itself. Are we happier now with all of our technology and busy life's in the cities then thousands of years ago when we lived humble in nature? I don't think so. Humanity is destroying everything it really holds dear, and all other life with it, I expect we will be the end of ourselves as well if we keep going like this.
@Jort007 Technology is the RESULT , a manifestation of humanity. Thousands of years ago, you would be dead by the age of 30 and life was riddled with sickness and disease. We have, without question, improved human life and to argue otherwise is to be woefully ignorant. 'Nature' is not some entity that exists outside of us, we are part of nature.
@MindfulFuture We are a part of nature, but we are destroying the other parts of nature, which we need to survive. And ofcourse it is not ignorant to argue against your statement, since improvement is totally subjective. But it IS pointless to argue about it, or to have a discussion over it, you live the life you live, you can't compare your life to another that you never lived or will live. How everything unfolds is just cause and effect. Sorry for maybe poor English btw...
Some of these comments simply are hypocritical, life expectancy is increasing every year. 100 years ago you would be lucky if you got to live over 40 but now thanks to science we can. Yet people are going on about how life would be worse if we tried to live longer... we already have, and those hypocrites are living longer. Research into aging will increase both quality and quantity of life, anyone who stands against this is immoral, you don't have to live longer but don't force others not to.
@MrKingatheist if you're trying to spell correctly.. fail. besides the point though. What's your problem with the statement? Do you disagree with it? Or do you dislike that the statement was made?
@crystalstarburst i acknowledge that i fail at spelling, its consequence of being dyslexic. Feel free to correct my error. I like the statement, but i both dislike it and disagree with it for this specific situation. Research into aging aims to increase the quality of life, as a side benfit we will live longer. Buster (at 1 min 40 sec into vedio) for example is a man who lived to 104, with a good quality of life, we should look into how this can be acheived. So your statement is unnecessary.
@MrKingatheist I understand the point you're trying to make but here's where we differ. research into aging aims to increase the the length of life and any benefit to the quality of life that may or may not emerge is secondary. Quality of life, for the most part, is a subjective matter. I think you and I both agree its more important to live a fulfilling life rather than a longer life and if anyone can manage to do both then they win. The trailer seems to only promote the latter.
@crystalstarburst I want to apologise for my rude first response. All i can say is that, people who ask important questions and have the right attitude should dissect this trailer,as the film may promote quality over quanity, or at least you will find people who feel that way in the area of research, like aubrey de grey. As for quality well individualism is subjective, but ive not yet met anyone who likes the idea of getting alzheimer's, so biologically for pragmatic reasons it can be objective.
who wants to live for ever and eafter 55 0r 60 life sucks you cant get a good job you feel like shit look like crap and the food and the energy that you just to have is out of the question.
@MrKingatheist well I don't know ware I am but you dirent get my point is that do you realy want to live a long life , the movie will show only the good of health but most people that get to their 80ths plus life is hell.
@pinchealberto Thats not quite true, see there is a man called aubrey de grey in this movie, he does not hold back on the horrors of aging, he calls it barbaric. He wants to find treatments to get rid of diseases like alzheimer's disease, arthritis etc. Say you turn 80, but you have had this aging rejuvenation therapy, you would biologically be brought back health wise to that of a 50 year old, and as the treatment improves you hypothetically would stay biologically at your prime. Thats the goal
There are benefits I see to this so called "immortality", you could see humanity pass by and watch it's pregression, ponder on questions that transcend lifetimes, expand your knowledge past the limits. However, if everyone was "immortal" I don't think I'd enjoy it all that much, it would just make people all the more de-grading. People already achieve enough evil in a lifetime, giving everyone more time sounds like a plan made to backfire...
Jack LaLanne would have been the best contender for healthy longevity, probably breaking 120 easily, if he hadn't passed away from pneumonia. + RIP + Jack LaLanne

It seems to me a rather selfish idea, well I guess it is the ultimate in selfishness, to want to live on forever. Doesn't dieing give other things the opportunity to live?
@VarianceFilms I think its selfish to condem future generations to death. Arthritis, alzheimer's disease etc, are terrible conserquences of aging. You don't have to accept treatment, if your dying so i say anyone who trys to slow the progess of longetivity for people are the selfish ones, because one day we will find a way to slow or even prevent aging, but the choice to accept the treatment will always be there.
@JColinOlson "Doesn't dieing give other things the opportunity to live?" Its impossible to live forever but we can live LONGER. Therefore people will still die, but at slower rates. Also we can through technology (terraforming) find new homes in the universe to have more kids ;P. Condemning people to die by age related disease's is truely selfish in my eyes, imagin if you had alzheimer's disease, what kind of death would you endure? at the end of the day you will still die but on your terms.
@MrKingatheist I can see what you are saying, however, I feel differently. I can't see how someone can be 'condemned to die by age related disease', since death is, of course, an inescapable eventuality. Perhaps, I just think about death differently. Which begs the question: isn't this all just about forestalling death? And I won't dodge your question, personally, if I got Alzheimer's, well that's it - game over. I would probably start making plans to go off and die somewhere, on my terms.
@JColinOlson I have no illusion of immoratilty as this is about forestalling death. Longetivity research targets Alzheimer's disease, and other age related diseases with the aim of keeping you biologically at your prime, THEN you can choose when you want to die (unless your hit by a bus). You will die, but not painfully by a disease or by having your life shortened by it. Its not that people are being condemned to die.. rather they are being robbed of the choice to die on their own terms.
@anelphabet et al. Many people have been misinterpreting what I meant a couple months ago, sure, we might be able to extend life Yet, with the world population reaching and surpassing 7 billion, food and water shortages becoming more common, immigration issues escalating, and the ecosystem on the whole generally faltering, I think it is kind of selfish for us rich people to say "Hey, I'm not through yet, I want to stay around even longer." More might not always be better in this case.
@berkshireee I see what you are getting at, and as an American I know that I am supposed to feel a sentimental pull towards that ideal of pursuing whatever I want at whatever cost, and the right of others to do so, but that really doesn't line up with reality. Isn't that what laws are - prohibitions against what people want to do because we, as a society, recognize that what people (and specifically individuals) want isn't always in their own best interest, much less everyone's interest.
@JColinOlson fuck off!! its selfish for other people to want to have me killed and replaced because they have a culturally biased fucked up obsession with having children because of god or nature and all that bullshit.
@JColinOlson You aren't taking other things the opportunity to live by living longer. Also, whether it's selfish or not depends on how you live your life, don't you think?
@JColinOlson If we all lived forever, we'd advance some much scientifically we could colonize the universe. Expand constantly no life at the expense of another. Living forever could also be the ultimate in selflessness. It really depends oh how one lives any life immortal or not.
@TheGokussj3030 If its selfish to live... then your a hypocrite, the life expectancy of humans today has almost doubled in the last century. So if your mommy and daddy are over 40 they are selfish as, they are living longer thanks to being in a 1st world country. If they get a disease, let them die otherwise your selfish. Right?
@MrKingatheist first off im tying to say is that he got to try all this stuff for free while us normal ppl have to pay an do you really want to live in this world with ppl barely able to get buy on there pay checks if you want to live forever in a world with famine hate war that your choice but don`t call me a hypocrite when try to tell that this world is not worth living forever in but rather ask me what my point of view is on the subject
@TheGokussj3030 Well no one can live forever, this video is talking about extending human life. I do want to live longer, and i belief it is possible if we work together to reduce human suffering, so people can live long lives while maintaining a good quality of life. Sorry to call you a hyocrite, but it is true, thanks to science our life spans have doubled.
@GabrielGaleano there is no immortality switch at all. There is only a death switch, such as apoptosis. The only falacy, is your argument and your ignorance. Just for one moment, imagine you could turn off that "off-switch".
@coollat17 Not everyone does! We got great footage of people in this film that have their own view of living forever. We hope you check it out when it's released in May!
@ridingboy i dont wanna get that old like 100 why? because you cant do anything that you can do at a young age you can easily break your pelvis, and you take a shit load of pills, wear diapers and all that shit. think about it.
The idea is to have a healthy body, not a decrepit one. If by the age of 100 someone is as healthy as a current 60 year old then they wouldn't mind the age. Research is being put into trying to reverse the aging process, so far they've only had success with skin tissue, so at least we won't look like prunes in the future.
@coollat17 check out buster, though. he died at 104 last week. he got off work, stopped by the pub for a pint, smoked a few cigarettes (as usual), went home, and died quietly in his sleep.

berkshireee 7 months ago
@berkshireee I see what you are getting at, and as an American I know that I am supposed to feel a sentimental pull towards that ideal of pursuing whatever I want at whatever cost, and the right of others to do so, but that really doesn't line up with reality. Isn't that what laws are - prohibitions against what people want to do because we, as a society, recognize that what people (and specifically individuals) want isn't always in their own best interest, much less everyone's interest.

@JColinOlson fuck off!! its selfish for other people to want to have me killed and replaced because they have a culturally biased fucked up obsession with having children because of god or nature and all that bullshit.
ashtongrist 7 months ago
@JColinOlson You aren't taking other things the opportunity to live by living longer. Also, whether it's selfish or not depends on how you live your life, don't you think?
Flackon 7 months ago
@Flackon I think there is some truth in your second sentence.
JColinOlson 7 months ago
@JColinOlson If we all lived forever, we'd advance some much scientifically we could colonize the universe. Expand constantly no life at the expense of another. Living forever could also be the ultimate in selflessness. It really depends oh how one lives any life immortal or not.

@TheGokussj3030 If its selfish to live... then your a hypocrite, the life expectancy of humans today has almost doubled in the last century. So if your mommy and daddy are over 40 they are selfish as, they are living longer thanks to being in a 1st world country. If they get a disease, let them die otherwise your selfish. Right?
MrKingatheist 5 months ago
@MrKingatheist first off im tying to say is that he got to try all this stuff for free while us normal ppl have to pay an do you really want to live in this world with ppl barely able to get buy on there pay checks if you want to live forever in a world with famine hate war that your choice but don`t call me a hypocrite when try to tell that this world is not worth living forever in but rather ask me what my point of view is on the subject
TheGokussj3030 5 months ago
@TheGokussj3030 Well no one can live forever, this video is talking about extending human life. I do want to live longer, and i belief it is possible if we work together to reduce human suffering, so people can live long lives while maintaining a good quality of life. Sorry to call you a hyocrite, but it is true, thanks to science our life spans have doubled.

@MrKingatheist its ok we both need to chill an enjoy the video

Our genes are programmed to proliferate and live on by means of replication, this is what reproduction achieves.
Our genes don't have an "immortality" switch which is programmed into them.
Immortality is not possible.
Aging is also a consequence of entropy.
We can slow it down, but we can't prevent death. To think that we can is a fallacy.
GabrielGaleano 10 months ago
@GabrielGaleano there is no immortality switch at all. There is only a death switch, such as apoptosis. The only falacy, is your argument and your ignorance. Just for one moment, imagine you could turn off that "off-switch".
Brandonduboff 10 months ago
@Brandonduboff "...your ignorance." Pot calling the kettle black?
Do you even know what would happen if you "turned off" apoptosis?
Get a clue.

Cryonics and life extension. Bullshit. Pseudoscience.
Live fulfilling lives and pass your genes down to your children. That, people, is immortality.

how do you know? I think you are lying to yourself.
ridingboy 10 months ago
@ridingboy i dont wanna get that old like 100 why? because you cant do anything that you can do at a young age you can easily break your pelvis, and you take a shit load of pills, wear diapers and all that shit. think about it.
coollat17 10 months ago
@coollat17
The idea is to have a healthy body, not a decrepit one. If by the age of 100 someone is as healthy as a current 60 year old then they wouldn't mind the age. Research is being put into trying to reverse the aging process, so far they've only had success with skin tissue, so at least we won't look like prunes in the future.
ramboman88 10 months ago
@coollat17 check out buster, though. he died at 104 last week. he got off work, stopped by the pub for a pint, smoked a few cigarettes (as usual), went home, and died quietly in his sleep.
