im learning about this i want to build one to handle my all my computer network i have about 6TB on my computers of shared filse i want one system to handle the lot because i have to turn on 8 computer just to get access to all my movies and tv shows and i really cant be bothered to buy new all new hardware to handle 6Tb im thinking of using my old P-III pc i have 5 usb 1TB HDD the mobo has 6 ports
well the question ive got is: what for? i mean ive just got a 10 port switch an old P4 2,66Ghz with 1gig of ram and 4TB diskspace... thats all i need, so tell me what do u guys do that u need that "monster machines" at home tho?
Well, i use it for my company, for home automation, for storage, i use my own exchange 2010 server. only that needs a server with 4gig ram, and core2duo cpu... x64, then i have 2 mailscanners for in and outbound mail. and offcourse a nice firewall server to keep it safe :-)
Beautiful setup you've got there. I've got three AP9211's in my racks at home and wish I had three more. The AP9212 you have is an IEC-320 C13 model, right?
Hey can I ask you a question - trying to set up some websites/thinking of using two or three rackmounts from Rackable Systems....BUT there are no cd/dvd drives on these systems so how do I install the OSs - maybe a network install is that possible before I install the OS ???
@donnyab yea i have a rackable systems server a simple USB plug in cd drive worked for me i love installing the OS on those so easy to do...im still trying to figure out how to do it on my Poweredge 1750 ive been trying for a month
Hey, What do you use your server/s for? They are for the home, but what's the purpose of having so much equipment? I'm not having a go or anything, just curious, that's all:)
7. Gameserver (CentOS 5.4) with hppd, ssl and MySQL for the game server control panel. <- testing server for 1000FPS cs 1.6. This one is going to EvoSwitch datacenter if its ready.
@techkra most people do it for study, it's cheap to set up, and lets you install all sorts of configurations and networks, webservers, virtual machines etc
i got a VOIP phone system going on a crappy old DELL rack i got for almost nothing-
as napoleon said, study teaches you about the past, but experience prepares you for the future-
@ycats1000 oh yeah, nice. i'm using a virtual machine on my laptop, for my video tutorials, and an old acer desktop as the real server, both running win 2k3 enterprise. i'm looking into upgrading to a proper server though, once i get my macbook.

Do you have a separate power supply from your house (RCDs)? How much current leakage do you get?

@alexanderwheeler the power is separated :-)

how much power do they use?
patricklorio 8 months ago
@patricklorio
i don't know m8
Exqua 8 months ago
@patricklorio Doubt they use much, probably a few hundred watts each under 100% load. Servers are meant to be pretty power efficient no matter what
