  • @dnbrhythm I have a new fileserver with 6x 2TB on raid5 running windows server 2008. i don't like home server.

  • it was verynice im learnin the samething in class

  • Do you have a separate power supply from your house (RCDs)? How much current leakage do you get?

  • @alexanderwheeler the power is separated :-)

  • how much power do they use?

  • @patricklorio

    i don't know m8

  • @patricklorio Doubt they use much, probably a few hundred watts each under 100% load. Servers are meant to be pretty power efficient no matter what

  • why the hell do need 8 running operating systems for you home ? i bet you got more servers than workstations !

  • @stevensheps its for my company now, it used to be a hobby :-)

  • what is this server used for?

  • Hello, I have a questions, What are the APC ?? , and the switch ??, and what internet are you using for thoes machines ??. Thanks :)

  • @Wolfnem

APC = the 1u unit on top of the rack and the 3com switch is the one under it. i have a 60mbit internet connection.

  • That's a real nice set-up you have there....I'm jealous !!! Thanks for the reply !

  • 8. virus test server. (Win 7 32bits) ??

Well,I'm sure with Windows 7 you'll have no probs finding virus's...lol

I run fedora Core 64 at home on my desktop & laptop but wanna set up a rack running CentOS.. Do you run your own name servers at home?

  • @brianfking I have 1 DNS server at home and 1 at transip.nl

  • well the question ive got is: what for? i mean ive just got a 10 port switch an old P4 2,66Ghz with 1gig of ram and 4TB diskspace... thats all i need, so tell me what do u guys do that u need that "monster machines" at home tho?

  • @cheeches

Well, i use it for my company, for home automation, for storage, i use my own exchange 2010 server. only that needs a server with 4gig ram, and core2duo cpu... x64, then i have 2 mailscanners for in and outbound mail. and offcourse a nice firewall server to keep it safe :-)

  • @Exqua do u use an open source firewall? ive got ipfire running and i think its kinda better than the old ip cop and has got nice "addons"

  • @cheeches

CentOS Linux with IPtables (firewall) and Squid (proxy).

  • @cheeches

    don't expect for answers...

  • @Exqua aaaaaahhh .. sure xD

    hahahah sorry buddy

  • Beautiful setup you've got there. I've got three AP9211's in my racks at home and wish I had three more. The AP9212 you have is an IEC-320 C13 model, right?

  • @Meta4XYZ

    IEC-320 C14 :-)

  • some people go way over the edge with home servers... Dell optiplex g150 ftw!

lol, my home server is a 600mhz intel celuron, 512mb sdram, 2x 40gb hard drives... lol, talk about bad, lol

  • @TdzaleskiVids The most are for research, so i must have some servers in my rack.

  • Heh. All I got at home is an old advent PC, 768 MB ram set up as a domain controller on Server 2003 Standard R2

  • Thats masiv, what are you using this for?

  • @farthestkris

    hehe yeah..

  • Should have just left the camera audio in.. Servers sound cool. :)

  • @farthestkris True.

  • Lol, all i have is my router, and a file server. yours is a little overkill. ;)

  • Cool setup check mine its more what you would see residential vs. home business

  • @Jaymn2589

    Nice cables and setup.

The green color looks nice m8

  • For what are you using all that at home?

  • @pinguinokde

For all kind of things. fileserver, back-up server, mailserver, vmware test servers and lots more.

  • Hey can I ask you a question - trying to set up some websites/thinking of using two or three rackmounts from Rackable Systems....BUT there are no cd/dvd drives on these systems so how do I install the OSs - maybe a network install is that possible before I install the OS ???

  • @donnyab

Everything is possible, but fix a cd drive and install vmware.

  • @donnyab you can use a usb drive google "win to flash" it's easy

  • @donnyab yea i have a rackable systems server a simple USB plug in cd drive worked for me i love installing the OS on those so easy to do...im still trying to figure out how to do it on my Poweredge 1750 ive been trying for a month

  • Nice Rack!

Where did u get the rack from?

Im going to buy 4 Dell servers off of a company that went dead for 50$ Each!

YAY Cant wait all i need now is a rack!

    Whats the song?

  • Hey, What do you use your server/s for? They are for the home, but what's the purpose of having so much equipment? I'm not having a go or anything, just curious, that's all:)

  • Well, i have 9 servers at the moment.

    1. Firewall and proxy server. (CentOS 5.4 with iptables and squid)

    2. Windows server 2003 (AD)

    3. DNS, DHCP VPN (CentOS 5.4)

    4. Back-up server 2x 1.5 TB raid 1 (Windows server 2008 enterprise)

    5. File server (Windows server 2003)

    6. Mail scanner (Linux ESVA)

  • 7. Gameserver (CentOS 5.4) with hppd, ssl and MySQL for the game server control panel. <- testing server for 1000FPS cs 1.6. This one is going to EvoSwitch datacenter if its ready.

    8. virus test server. (Win 7 32bits)

    9. Linux test server (CentOS 5.4)

  • @techkra most people do it for study, it's cheap to set up, and lets you install all sorts of configurations and networks, webservers, virtual machines etc

i got a VOIP phone system going on a crappy old DELL rack i got for almost nothing-

as napoleon said, study teaches you about the past, but experience prepares you for the future-

  • @ycats1000 oh yeah, nice. i'm using a virtual machine on my laptop, for my video tutorials, and an old acer desktop as the real server, both running win 2k3 enterprise. i'm looking into upgrading to a proper server though, once i get my macbook.

  • whats the function off (labeled)"core switch 1"?

  • You can stack the switches in the house.

This is the switch where all the other switches comes together. check out the 3com management software.

  • looks awesome!

  • Thanks m8, doing my best :-)
