  • Thank you soooo much for this video! I don't have a pullup bar or resistance bands to use and I thought that I couldn't do the program. Now that I've watched this there's no excuse to not complete P90X.

  • @Mysticbladegod Makes me very happy to hear that! P90X gets the job DONE, and now you can get out there and make it happen. Awesome! Hit up either me or my wife on Facebook if you want some coaching as you go through the program. We are at aaronpotts1 and shannapotts on FB.

  • does p90x tell you this info

  • @ryanyoung97 P90X tells you how to use resistance bands instead of a pull-up bar, but it doesn't show you these alternate exercises with dumbbells.

  • Thx men! Obrigado.

  • Thank you for the info, I've been looking for a solution for a while!

  • @jaycero Very glad it helped you out! I talk to a lot of people who don't have access to a pull up bar, or they need to do P90X at the gym, on the road, etc. Glad there are ways to keep rockin' the results even without the pull up bar!

  • Great video!

  • Thanks...I was looking for an alternative to pull ups and chin ups using the pull up station and resistance bands...

  • @UltimateMarvel1 No problem! Glad it helped you out!

  • Thanks a lot! What would you recommend for the weight of the dumbbells? I haven't ever done any type of working out.

  • @WallyVaio As with all resistance training, it depends on your goals. If you want larger muscles, go with weights that you can only do 8-10 repetitions before you can't do any more. Rest, repeat, and do that for 3 or 4 sets for every exercise.

  • @aaronmp2003 I was doing it all wrong.Thank you so much man!

  • @LordRASPUTN You are most welcome! :)

  • Thank you so much! Helped me a lot!

  • @Svninja10 No problem!

  • This is great. I can't get a pull up bar right now and I always wondered how I could modify. Going to start January 1. Thanks for sharing!

  • @mellowdee9 2 weeks into the New Year, Mellowdee. Did you get started on track?

  • what about using a lebert eqaulizer?

  • @JayeFahFah I don't know that a lebert equalizer is, so I don't know how effective it would be.

  • My pleasure, Superboiii - glad you got some value out of it!

  • Thank you so much; this is exactly what I needed!

  • Judenz - Any back exercise is going to use your rear deltoids (back of the shoulder) to a certain degree, but the idea is to keep the majority of the work being done by your back. Keep the weights close to your body, as low on your back as you can, and always bend your elbows. The further the weight is from your body, the higher towards your shoulders you hold it, and the straighter your arms are, the more you will engage your shoulders instead of your back.

  • is this officially a pull up replacement, are you sure this is a back excercise i dont mean to question your word its just that i did the 90 days of p90x with weights to later find out i was doing a shoulder excercise instead of back so i just wanna be sure

  • Thank you so much :D

  • Aaron, thank you! I start my P90x workout this August, but I am moving into my college dorm in September so I was worried about not being able to do pull-ups and chin-ups. All the equipment online and in stores either require me to put screws somewhere in the room or are really expensive pieces of equipment.

Quick question: You talk about heavy dumbbells. Is there a certain weight-to-dumbbell weight ratio or what do you recommend for quantifying a heavy but reasonable weight? Thanks again.

  • Juumdd - You can get a cloth "dongle" from Amazon that only costs a few bucks. It goes over the top of ANY door, and it has a loop that you can put resistance bands through. Works like a charm!

    Mr. Jojo - You're welcome!

Crystal - Yes, pullups work your back, shoulders, and biceps (top of the arm). The primary muscles uses are the large muscles in the back, but the shoulders are used a lot as well, and the biceps assist part of the movement as well.

  • im new to this but do pullups work on your back and arms?

if so..does this do the same

  • very helpful and informative. thank you!

  • this is great man, thanks. I got nowhere to either put a pull up or a resistance band in my small house lol.

  • Ninja - Yeah, definitely just pause the DVD and then go do all of your reps. Pulls ups/chin ups leave you so winded that the break after you go back to push play isn't going to hurt you. Rock on!

  • Ok I have a pull up bar but the only door way it fits in is my bath room door way and idk if I should just pause the video then run across my house and do the pull ups and chin ups or should I just use weights o and I did t but p90x my cousin gave me a copy on my USB but idk how to play a USB movie on anything my pc it in a tiny little room and that's not going to work but please tell me what u think thanks

  • thank you so much! my pull up bar didnt fit my doorway and I didnt know what to do in order to finish my work out. You helped a lot. Thanks

  • My pleasure, Bob! Lot's of people struggle with pull-ups - they're tough!

  • thanks man i cant do a pull up to save my life

  • No problem! There are a lot of people who are missing out on P90X results because they can't use a pull up bar, so I wanted to show some other options.

  • Great vid thanks!
