In the city, they stay coupled and hang around 2-3 other couples. They have one baby per year.
About once a month thru spring and summer, all the Lorikeets in the larger neighbourhood have a big party (corroboree) in a tree they select. There'll be hundreds of birds in one tree making lots of noises and chatter, but just for one night, then they go back to their normal tree (that they sleep in) the next day. I can hear the baby squawk for food in the morning ~6:30am and 9 am in Spring.
There's a few Lorikeets that visit the balcony where I live.
They are friends with the 2 pigeons and the young Magpie in the area.
I can tell Lorikeets are cheeky by nature (like horses), they have just enough aggression to give them good personalities and not be shy around other birds. They sometimes tap on the window because I used to feed them years ago, the couple down the road have a regular seed bell for them anyway and I see they have a nibble there before it gets dark.
We literally just lost ours today. No one was home at the time, we're thinking something spooked him and he got a little too frenzied and gave himself a heart attack or something. It's nice knowing there's at least a couple videos of them so I can remind myself how he sounded from time to time.
Saw one of these for the first time ever at a breeder's last week. Absolutely stunning little bird. Very shy, though, which is a pity. Still, what an eye-catcher. :)
@TheBossylady1 do you live in the US? if so, i have no idea, in Australia you can buy one for around $70 if you are lucky to get one, unfortunatelly they are very hard to get at this point in time
@joserabino2012 I have a female one which costed me only 20 euros, she's really cute and already layed like 10 eggs, but since I don't have a male bird they all were eggs that couldn't come out. btw, I bought her about 3 or 4 years ago
Your parrot is beautiful! I have a green-naped lory named Nikki. She is three years old. I love them all!!! Parrots are incredible birds that's for sure!
One must have a very quiet, gentle disposition to beguile these lovely birds, and you clearly have that. I had a pair once and so enjoyed them. All the best to you and your avian loved ones.

Thanks for sharing this segment of your beautiful Scarlet-chested parrot. They are stunning! This bird is obviously very fond of you. I had a dream of going to Australia and finding Scarlet-chests in the wilds of the outback and traveled there in 2009. The joy of that adventure is that I found not one but 2 beautiful males in their outback habitat. If your interested in seeing a clip from the film you can see stills from the film. polytelismedia wordpress

I've never seen one in real life, and I think yours has probably been the best one I've seen on film :)
