I've also heard it called the "Bichon Buzz". Ours used to do it when he was excited (which was a lot), but now that he's an old man with bad knees, he's more likely to do it when he's really cheesed off with us...like when we clean his fanny.

That's funny our dog does the exact same thing, but she will grab a toy and then drop run around the house and then grab another toy and drop and make that growling noise...that's so funny.
