Takeoff was in the 13R runway. Both parallel runways are 3.800 mts long x 45m wide.
A full loaded transcontinental plane need that long takeoff ride to reach airborne speed because the Bogota's 2.630 mts a.s.l.
Old airplanes (like the Boeing 707-320) needed to stop in Barranquilla for gasoline if they intended to do a long fly. Full loaded with passengers and fuel it was impossible to take off because of the height.
despegando de bogota nunca suben por las montanas...he observado que siempre doblan a la derecha o a la izquierda....pero he visto dc-3 subiendo por las montanas...no hay aviones comerciales que suban por ahi? seria interesante el angulo de inclinacion...
In this case the plane is larger than the model of aircraft that crashed on the flight AF 447 (Air Bus 330-200, Rio, Paris). What flight was that of the video?
This case. This Bogota should be a mega-plane. However, if the flight AF 447 Air Bus 330-200 was lower with all that size, then imagine this. Thanks friend.
No, the difference compare A-340 and Jumbo 747, is the pax capacity, in the A-340 is 293 pax, and Jumbo is morethan 416 Pax, is differen the size too, thank you !!1
Comprender. Eso es todo. Gracias por sus explicaciones. (Risas) Creo que no hablan portugués y, normalmente, como usted habla su español. Yo creo que sí ficaremnos con una mejor comprensión. Hay muchas diferencias. ¿Está de acuerdo?
cool, i took the same flight couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic, good food and polite air hostesses, took about 11 long hours to get to paris but it was a nice flight.
No, tropical air is thicker than colder air, because 2 reasons: higher oxigen composition (%), and higher humidity. But Bogota, is 2600 meters above sea level, so bogota's air is considerer as a cold one even if it's in a tropical country (15°C in average). So, less oxigen leads less combustion capacity, so less thrust and longer runways are needed. That's why bogota ElDorado has one of the longest runways in the world.
Ive been reviewing all my aviation books since my early days of private pilot training to the ones I used to get my ATP...and I can not for the glory of God find the term "weak take off" as in reference to the description of a take off by a jet airplane...Still can you shed any light on the subject other than the fact that the airplane in question has an output of 34,000 lbs per engine, perhaps a book reference?
In aviation terms, Bogota is 8400 feet above sea level. At that altitude there is only about 75% of sea level pressure (density) which means the engines only produce around 75% of sea level thrust. (Slightly more because they were likely down-rated a little). Less thrust, slower acceleration, more runway, lower climb angle.
yes "only" 34000 pounds per engine, but A343's has not 2 but 4 of them and keep in mind that is lighter than B772. So, no more thrust is needed. At least is enough thrust to take it off, and carry it out 14000Km at 950Km/h with 300 people on board+cargo payload.
been with Singapore air many times very good services, etc. However this yr planning travel either Malaysia for first time from Melb to Turkey or air France but wondering do have great services. Just need adivce piror the ticket
i live in colombia and i did this flight like 5 years ago and it was so cool, lot to things to do on this plane and i want to go again to paris but just thinking that they are 11 hours of flight makes me doubt it, i don't know how i did that time =S

no this is a different airplane, this have 4 engines the A 330-200 have only 2, but the company is Air France.

At 8000ft elevation you need every bit of runway on offer.
N330AA 3 years ago
I've taken the Iberia 340-600 Bogota-Madrid. It takes every single bit of runway!
SamuP18 2 years ago
What do you mean by this exactly? I noticed in the video that the plane seemed to take up a tremendous amount of runway & it also struggled to climb.
ejdf870 2 years ago
It's because at higher altitude the air density is much lighter. Thus it is harder to generate the lift to climb and takeoff.
N330AA 2 years ago
due to high terrain altitude

What is a weak take off..Can you explain using aviation terms?
Busylatin 3 years ago
the thrust of the engine is weak its only 34,000 pounds of thrust

I took off from El Dorado a few weeks ago. I saw smoke out the window. It turned out to be part of a cloud (or some fog) in the middle of the runway!
I was worried for a second before I realized what it was.
