When you say complexity, I kind of wonder... Maybe I'd have to be a musician myself to understand what you're talking about there. I've been listening very closely, but to be honest I seem to hear the same instrumental heartbeat throughout alot of these songs... And by heartbeat I mean its the same f'ing thing repeating over and over. There are a few variations, yes. They just aren't quite enough for me. I DO agree with the "atmosphere" idea though. That's why I called it "backround" music.

The thing is, That's Meshuggah's MO, rhythmically complicated riffs with small variations. But I would say that yes primarily Meshuggah is a musicians band. People who don't play the guitar or drums and appreciate how difficult the simplistic sound is, won't really get that satisfaction from it I guess. (In no way trying to sound like elitist douche ^^)

Anyway, Im not a major fan of either of the two... What drew me to all this Meshuggah stuff was the reallllly weird bald guy with crazy multiple arms. Hes creepy in a really interesting way... If you look at it from a purely vocal standpoint it won't come close to your favorite bands.
