  • I saw that someone named Ray Bradbury was going to be speaking at the college in my community.... I flipped out completely. Then I found out it was someone unrelated with the same name. I was incredibly disappointed.

  • The short story he's talking about in the beginning is called "The Lake." I think.

  • " DUMB DUMB DUMB why didnt i kiss her " hahahahaha this dude is so frekin funny !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hmmm interesting guy

  • Ron Paul 2012, spam the web!

  • Powerful. What a genius.

  • Just wonderful!

  • This was the shortest 30 minutes ever! I didn't want him to stop talking!! I found myself tearing up, laughing, and becoming introspective on my own life. This is one of the most awesome humans to ever walk the earth.

  • We belong on Mars God-Damn-It! Love him.

  • Disagree with him on the scientists part. Scientists try to prove things to the best of thier abilities whereas Religious groups say "It just is."

  • When the interviewer misstates the name of the magazine at the beginning, Ray looks kind of pissed. He doesn't seem to like his interviewer much... Don't blame him.

  • When he misstates the name of the magazine, Ray looks kinda pissed. He doesn't seem to like his interviwer. <3

  • I wish I could have heard his poem.

  • Who are theses awful people who go around disliking such beautiful videos?

  • I'd love the interview, had it not being this guy to ask the questions.

  • @JJOrrico1 The guy interviewing Mr. Bradbury doesn't seem to care does he?

  • I love Ray, but the bit where he says Fox Cable does good work... um... am I the only one?

  • @BunchofMovieVideos The man's ridiculously naive. You didn't gather that from his writing???

  • @sickfixxreturns Even the most naive person couldn't call that a decent or intelligent channel. I just don't understand his thinking. He may wear rose-tinted glasses but he's not blind...

  • @BunchofMovieVideos He is an old school conservative in that regard. While I am more of a moderate, I try not to let it tarnish my thoughts on his writing.

  • Great interview, thanks for the upload!

  • i'm 1 minute in and i already hate this interviewer

  • omg! ray is such a funny and itelligent man! i wish i can have a conversation with him

  • I love his insight in to a political landscape!

  • Thanks, Ray, from all of us, short fiction writers at Sci-Fi Almanac. Great advices!

  • This man is brilliant.

  • awesome stuff thanks for the post.

  • Ray Bradbury you are amazing, thank you

  • Well, hell, gimme some lightning and i'll make my own life.

    hahahaha.

  • No Mr. Bradbury, we did not listen, and damn are we paying for it

  • this interviewer is so stupid, he doesn't know shit about Bradbury. He was tripping over his own damn feet.

  • @seguin100 I agree. He isnt a very good interviewer at all.

  • By far my favorite writer.

  • "constructing the screenplay, what the hell is that?" ahahah I am not a smarty pant but I am reliably with him. This is my part.

  • ive found my kindred spirit! ...i bet the way i feel about Ray is the way charles baudelaire mustve felt when he discovered edgar all poe! ....thank you soooo much for posting this! long live ray bradbury!!!

  • I'd say that even everyone that is smokeing is the reality of now. I'm sure by 2020 you will see a bunch of people smoking by any age. My friend told me that marajana is going to be legal. That just proves it all!

  • I love this guy is awesome! I loved "Farenheit 451!"

  • he is right about 'constructing' screenplays. go to netflix and browse through movies, 90% are total crap, hollywood spends billions making crap, and why? you think they want to make crap? NO, 90% of what is written is crap

  • "What the hells was the question?" I love this man

  • Thank you so much for uploading this!

  • Such a gentle, life-loving, affable soul is Bradbury and I cannot express enough how much I hope to see him become the first human being in history to live forever. To lose the fresh, inspirational, articulate, poetic talent that he has blessed the world with in the form of storytelling will make for one incredibly sorrowful day.

What a joy of a man. In my life, I hope to achieve even a fraction the kind of optimism and youthfully exuberant spirit which he has imparted to his readers.

  • His whole deal about 'living forever' brought on by the carnival barker is just a romanticized reaction to life. The reality is that his body is breaking down as he can't even get around without a wheelchair these days. I hate it as much as anyone, but it's the truth.

  • @SatelliteofHeaven

All due respect, but I think it has more to do with living forever in the minds of others long after you've kicked the bucket. Plus there is nothing wrong with having a cheerful outlook on life

  • A very interesting man, very inspirational ^^

Does anyone know the name of the short story hes talking about in the beginning?

Where he brought the little girl back to life?

  • @TCOGAK

it was called "the lake" and he didn't save her life, she drowned, she was real and she died that day

  • Thanks man!! I've been waiting ages for some one to reply to this comment!! You rock :D

  • Huh?

  • Sorry, (Its Fuckhartcourt3 under a diffrent name.) I was replying to some bloody idiot down below who said that Ray Bradbury's work was full of sex, rapes your mind and that it should all be burned and instead people should read the bible instead.

  • i also like the authors who put faith and space exploration together liike the guy who wrote the book "contact"...

  • @vise357 that was carl sagan that wrote contact

  • he's so right about local news!!

  • Ray Bradbury is such an amazing author

  • One could listen to Ray Bradbury all day. What an inspiring writer. Love his attitude to writing. This video should live on here for ever.

  • Ray Bradbury is my favorite author of all-time. He writes and he speaks so metaphorically and in a theme, it's just so great I can't even explain it! God bless Ray Bradbury and his work.

  • he is a genius

  • He is so totally correct about screenplay structure too.

  • psst! ray! there's something on your nose!

  • 22:05 the real meaning to life. the only one that makes sence!

  • I heard him speak many, many years ago. He just says what he thinks without overthinking a matter. I found him very refreshing and helpful.

  • He's a good writer.

  • still, ray bradbury didnt think of the internet which is starting to kill tv

  • Yes but this was in 2001 when the internet wasn't so popular.

  • Biochips thats BS. If you love writing you can make it, you just have to get off your ass and write. You don't write to make money you write because you love it.

  • He loves an audience. He talks right to them and is having such a great time.

  • I remember loving to read his Martian Chronicles. I was simultaneously drawn to as well as slightly repelled by the haunted, lonely landscapes they evoked. There's some really good advice for writers here and he puts it over with terrific humour.

  • It seems like Bradbury says the same things in all his interviews and public speeches. Not that I'm denigrating him or anything. Just an observation.

  • thanks for this upload =)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, I'm a huge fan of Rays and he's wonderful here, as articulate and interesting as ever.

  • The story he shares at the end is ironic in that he uses his time for sharing a poem written about himself to explain that it isn't about "these guys," referencing Sammy Davis Jr. and Engelbert Humperdinck. He admits his time speaking his mind is more important than himself.

I'm proud to be alive in a generation celebrating this incredible man. An inspiration to mankind.

  • Erudite and brusque at the same time, Bradbury is the man!

  • "... have a pretty good life..." Yeah, not if you're dead broke. Ray was persistent and it paid off. That's how most writers "make it". Who can write a short story a week, though? Most people are working "regular" jobs.

  • This is where I think Mr. Bradbury is a bit naive. He seems like the type that has been sheltered most of his life, by friends, family, his wife, etc. That may be a good thing in that it kept him honest and relatively innocent. But life isn't always as simple as he makes it in interviews. There's plenty to love, but plenty to be angry about. And there's nothing wrong with being self conscious if your message in writing is political. Plus, he doesn't drive a car. I used to be that way.

  • Every single person who got a writer has worked a "regular" job before. No one started off as a published and successful writer. This kind of argument is just stupid. Stephen King was an English teacher, Philip K. Dick worked in a record shop, John Grisham was a lawyer, other ones were doctors or even politicians. It's the obession that makes you a writer. You have to suffer from something, be in pain. If you're a normal thinking individual you can't make it.

  • wow

ray bradbury is up there with the greates thinkers of all time!

  • If this man were any more freaking brilliant, I think my head would explode.

  • absolutely amazing thanks

  • Lol... guess he didn't want to read the poem at the end...

What a great speaker. I love how intense and candid he is. I can't wait till I'm eighty an I don't give a rat's a** about what people think.

  • damn. this shit is deep for real.

  • I wish more people would watch this video, he's a genius.

  • 78tyg. Your mind is the one that's diseased. I hope that you and all your heartless cohorts will have a revelation someday, and step out of the narrow, dark, and dank caves of illusion that you spend your miserable lives in. The word of God is the word of Love, and here you are fuming at the mouth. I don't sense one of iota of love from you. Typical of religious fanatics: bloated with cynicism and hypocrisy.

  • @braincontained the same can be said for you. you seem really bitter about people being bitter. don't let them get in your way. ;)

  • how dare you say that he is a phenomenal man and you know what they need to know the past and the present so they need history they need to add and subtract so they need math books they need to read and write so they need english books so if only the holy bible is tought in schools then by the second year no children starting in that fucked up world would be able to read gods word so it would die out itself slowly based on that if god didn't like it he wouldn't have given people free will.

  • First, the correct spelling is "homosexual", not "homosexaul", learn how to spell. Second, Bradbury was married to the same woman for 40 years and has three daughters. Third, you are a stupid asshole.

  • (sighs deeply) not another christian bloody nutter who needs knocking off the pile, first of all, if you actually read any of his books you will find that:

    a) there is no sex in any of them.

b)his writing does not rape your mind.

    c) what proof is there he is homosexual? Since he is married to a woman and has four daughters.

Oh and also you really do suck at life so stop putting your religous bullshit onto videos.

  • Timeless.

Host is just in awe and nervous. That's understandable

  • what a loser host haha...he was just reading, he should know better than that.

  • I read that story about the girl !!

Oh thanks so much for posting this!

  • Feb 22, 2001. Says it at 5:15.

Bradbury is a damned genius. He needs to be more well-known to the kids of today.

  • damn straight.

  • what year was this?
