My dad was a city cop for 15 years, he moved on to become a homicide detective for 10 years before retiring after 25 years of working for the local police department. Anyway, I remember all the stories he had about people trying to talk their way out of a ticket after being caught and it was absolutely clear they KNEW they were doing something wrong. The sad part; my dad said a lot of folks would get angry at him for enforcing the law, he said they tried to play "victim".. LOL! Pathetic.

If the HOV lane is for carpooling, why do motorcycles and cops get to ride in the lane scott free without a passenger? On my daily commute to work I witness a number of cops riding in the HOV lane. They should have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Don't have a passenger? Get out of the HOV. With all the HOV lanes in Phoenix, our city is still in the Top 5 for most pollution. Go figure.

What I am upset about is that the far left lane is for FASTER traffic passing slower traffic. People with more then 1 passenger tend to drive slower. Meaning you have a passing lane sandwiched between to slow lanes.

@BossyBadger The purpose of carpool lanes is to reward people for carpooling. A carpool is a wonderful thing. If you have 4 people in one car driving to work, that means there are 3 less vehicles on the road since those 3 other people in the car would have to drive to work. So, the more carpools = the less total vehicles on the road. Simple. If there were no carpool lanes, there would be less incentive for people to carpool, other than saving gas. Think about it. Carpool lanes are smart.

Went to Florida, had a rental car...and told to go to Cape Canaveral. Being from Minnesota, not used to toll ways...but luckily stayed in the right lane, and everything went well...Talking to locals, afterwards, they told me if I would have made a mistake, they would have got me. But, loved Florida, it was a good time. No tickets!!

I took the carpool lane from down town all the way to sun valley with a ready mix truck even saw some chp stuck in traffic trying to get into the carpool lane to get that big ticket oh well I had a passenger I thought it was ok but later I learned that commercial vehicles like big truck are not allowed to use that lane.

Where's that news about "diamond lane diving"? I've diamond lane dove over 300 times in about 10 years cuz people swerve right in front of the car. I didn't close the gap on them, so I don't know why I'm accused of anything as if I was making it impossible for them. About 5 times did they actually want to smash into the fender on the side. SOMETIMES it is best to signal for 5 seconds BEFORE the decision on highways. I ONCE had someone swerve in front, stop and held me liable per false witness

No if you car is a 2 seater and it's has 2 people you're fine,, Motorcycles are allowed to use the car pool lane as well, If you have a Pick-up with a cab with seats you are required to have 3 or more,

There should be even harsher penalties for even simple violations like these. If you had your license suspended for a carpool violation then I guarantee you no one would do it! Simple.
